  • $60 /kg is a lot to pay for "Allen’s Lollies and Nestle Lollies" when my local supermarket sells them for $2 for 200g…

  • I guess it depends on how good the rocky road is, and what kind of ratios we're talking about - if it's only 25% rocky road, this does seem pricey, if it's more like 75% with just some other lollies as filler, and if the rocky road is awesome, this probably isn't too bad - would need to know the ratios though (no mention on the site)

if the rocky road is awesome, this probably isn’t too bad

If you buy just the Rocky Road, it is $7.98 for 250 grams, so less than $32 /kg

When you water this down with cheap Allens and Nestle lollies, then charge $60 /kg, that becomes a very expensive Noodle Box…

My advice is get a cheap noodle box for 50 cents, buy some bags of Allens and Nestle lollies for $2 a bag at Coles or Woollies and just order "a bar of Rocky Road" from this site….

      • bad value compare to their own site (thanks jv) :)

        • Our Gift Products include Express Post shipping. Our standard products do not include shipping as it is calculated based on what the customer orders (most order 1kg of Rocky Road).

Yes, I would agree with this.
I have bought Harry's Rocky Road last time he had a special and would highly recommend it. Delicious!

      • and would highly recommend it.

how does it compare to Darrell Lea Rocky Road ?

        • Thanks, might try some next time they're on sale… (ie. delivered cost < Darrell Lea)

        • +1

It will never compare to Darrell Lea in price. Darrell Lea is produced by a machine and ours is hand made at every step using better chocolate than Darrell Lea.

Trying to compare a handmade product to a mass produced product is not comparing "apples with apples". I don't appreciate being called a rip off when I work hard to produce a quality product that most people who have tried it would consider it to be better "value" than Darrell Lea or most other Rocky Road.

If you don't see purchasing confectionery, gifts or handmade products online good "value" because of the shipping charges then don't comment.

You're own website has them ranked similar to yours in quality…

          http://www.harrysrockyroad.com.au/images/article2.jpg

So unless their is some incentive to even try yours, why should i bother paying so much for it, for something that has been rated essentially the same ????

        • That is the opinion of one newspaper editor. The top 3 all use couveture chocolate. We use compound chocolate (no palm) and Darrell Lea use compound (with palm).

        • Nicer than Darrell Lea and come in more interesting flavours.

Give this guy a break. He is doing his best to come up with an offer leaving himself very little profit.
Perhaps the noodle boxes aren't that good of a deal due to the high shipping cost but I would still recommend anyone try the blocks of pure rocky road. You can tell that it is made fresh unlike Darrell lea.

      • Glad you enjoyed :D

    • Roughly 50/50.

I think the Store Reps here at Ozbargain should worry less about -ve voting comments that are factual, and worry more about providing some value to Ozbargain readers, rather than trying to rip them off…

    • Agreed. Also pretending that including shipping pushes your prices to unreasonable levels is ridiculous. We would much pay for postage on top of a reasonably priced deal than have prices overly inflated because of postage being included.

      • The Noodle Box Gift: $30 sell - $15 for Jumbo Express Satchel - $2 for shipping carton and tissue paper to insulate product from melting - $6 for confectionery - $1 for box and nutritional information labels is $6 profit. Without the discount and no mention of the time it takes to produce our product and pack the Noodle Boxes and then pack the order.

What part of that is ridiculous?

        • Again. That is a different product. Not the Noodle Box. All our Rocky Road products raised price this week due to a price rise in chocolate from our supplier.

        • Your chocolate price rise would be negated by the drop in price of Nestle and Allens sweet though… :P

        • Allen's Lollies haven't dropped in price. Their price hasn't move for at least 12 months.

        • They're entire range was $2 for 200g last week at Coles…
I consider that a price drop

        • Well unfortunently Coles (and Woolworths, etc.) apply retail quantity limits to their specials. Which means small businesses can only purchase from the supplier or a wholesaler (the price of which, due to volume, is often more expensive at standard price compared to a major retailers special price). The price of these lollies from Nestle (which also produce Allen's) has not changed in more than 12 months.

        • That doesn't seem to apply to Asian milk bar owners who fill up there trollies each Thursday morning at my local Coles…

Anyway, to compare the price you are charging for this item, it is valid to compare how much these goods would cost a customer, not a supplier…

  • Huge ripoff, but man, I wanna try one of those cakes.

Muuuuummmm, it's my birthday on Sundayyyyyy…
