10bit (8+FRC) - Display Settings in Win10 / Nvidia

Is there settings to enable 10bit color output to monitor (8+FRC) ?

Currently Win10 showing 8bit in display prop.

Tried Nvidia CP custom settings , no option for 10bit depth (32bit channels).

I can see color banding so i assume switching to 10bit (8+FRC) will smooth out those banding ?

Thanks.

Nvidia consumer class cards (Geforce GTX) can only output 10 bit color in a Direct X11 exclusive fullscreen mode. To get 10 bit color output on the Desktop in a way professional applications use it you need a Quadro card and drivers. Nvidia is blocking this for Geforce cards, regardless of the control panel setting a Geforce card will not process/output proper 10 bit color output.

To test 10 bit output in DX11 exclusive fullscreen you can try this:

Games that I know that can render in 10 bit with a Geforce card if your Monitor supports it:

GRID 2, GRID Autosport, Alien: Isolation. There may be more now.

    • Thanks! Guess that's purely for market segmentation / $$$ as usual.

Also found that Nvidia CP 10bit option only avail on DP connection ; no love for HDMI.

Yup. There's a reason Quadros retail for like 10x (rough guess…) the price of GeForces, and it's certainly not because they cost anywhere near that to produce.

      • ill give it a go this afternoon, i have a DP to hdmi connector, and running through a 4k tv with 10bit. I dont think im going to notice it, and if i do, i'll just want a 12bit next.
