I think the 4 Stroke range just sold recently is better quality…

      How so?
I cluelessly bought 4stroke tools but has been raining every weekend since then so haven't had a chance to use them yet

      • Raining every weekend?

        Obviously not a NSW resident…

        • Maybe southwest coast of Tasmania?

        • @Cleremy:

          Lol forecast sunny this weekend!

    why no 20V tools! #sigh

I bought the mower, line trimmer and chainsaw this time last year for these prices (chainsaw looks to be a diff model though) so will give some feedback. All are generally ok and worth the money, but a few gripes.

    • Trimmer needs a bump head to avoid discarding ~50% of your line. Can be temperamental starting.
    • Chainsaw needs marking for the switch to indicate on/off. Also not the easiest to start (less so when the switch is off).
    • Mower repeatedly lost a spring on the lift mechanism but seems to work fine without it. Mouth of catcher tends to block up long before catcher fills. Starts first pull every time, so far.

I've got the mower, and it does start easily…

BUT, it's poorly designed and cheaply made.
The deck is very thin or a soft metal and damages easily - have had to hammer out a number of dints which were catching on the blades.
The catcher frame has a metal rod at the font that sits in a lip at the back of the deck - this lip quickly fills with dirt/grass and often have to scrape it clear after emptying the catcher otherwise it doesn't sit correctly.
On lower height settings, the front of the deck chassis is too prone to digging in on even slightly uneven ground.
The cam locks (or whatever they're called) that lock the handle in position are cheap plastic. They flex and break with little force, yet they're supposed to lock the handle in place.

I bought this to use where our ride on can't access, but don't think it's even worth $139.

      • Bit curious with your experience with it?

        • what were you doing to it to have to hammer out the dents in it? Or was it that way from the factory?

        • metal rod on catcher frame is fine, it'll still throw the grass into the catcher. If you're worried about it you just run your finger across the lip to remove the grass when emptying the catcher.

        • Can't say mine has dug into any uneven ground. Perhaps yours is set too low?

        • cam locks are fine - the trick in using them is to not need to have to use too much pressure to lock them in place - they'll still lock the handle in place fine without loosening once you have them tightened up.

    • Assuming that a chainsaw should not be used by a novice. Please correct me if I am wrong, as I haven't bought a chainsaw for that reason

  • Does Aldi own Bunnings?

That Outdoor storage box looks identical to the one on sale at Bunnings for the same price?

  • The Garden bed edges looks very sharp, it may injure a kid falling down or pets jumping on it, if it had blunted edges I'll be interested :(

You could probably get an old piece of hose and slice down the middle and fit it over?

      • +1

This is actually a good idea

      • Or some pinchweld. $3/m, but it the correct stuff for the job.

May injure but won't kill. Probably like dozens of other things in most gardens

This Garden Bed Edging will Keel!

    • I have had the garden beds from a couple of years ago and they look the same, and mine have rounded edges.

  • Anyone got the storage box before? Is it actually strong enough for an adult (100 kg) to sit on?

what's the 0-60 times on these bad boys

    • Asking the real questions

  • Yeah, let's make some noise!

  • I have the lawn mower and the line trimmer.

Both are very good. Lawn mower starts first time. Remember that they come without oil - normally Aldi will sell the oil separately during the garden specials.

Line trimmer is good. Can be a be cranky to start with about 5 things to prime / pull / push / hold when starting it. Fine once you get used to it though. The nylon lines used for the trimming break and wear pretty quick though, I bought some after market Trail Blazer trimmer line and they last much longer. You will also need 2 stroke oil to add to the petrol for the trimmer.

  • Anyone bought the Lawn Edger from Aldi last year?

  • Bought the last years model mower.Turned out to be a turd. Worked well for 4 months then something broke, needed service, that took ages, had to send it 10 km away and still cost me money as it wasnt covered by warranty. Got mower back worked 2 more times and now does not start..

Aldi power gadgets and I just don't get along…

    mixo

  • Anyone have the line trimmer just want a cheapo for the odd use;i see my aldi has still the model from before if approx 179 which is probably better than this one now offered.
In past has bunnings not price matched there items with items of there own or dont they do that now?
Just thought bunnings might offer a better trimmer for same money to try and drive customers away from aldi.

  • Does anyone know the engine in the lawn mower? I.e. can you readily buy servicing parts like spark plug and filter? How have you gone sourcing replacement spark plug and air filters for last year's model?

I haven't had much luck with getting service parts as above (not even replacement parts!) With cheaper models.

    • I imagine that much like most mowers, they have a pretty generic spark plug.

  • Bit concerned…..body is all plastic so will be interesting to see how it stands up.
