Hi all,

Apologies for being a bit slow this week. I bought a car from Pickles Auctions sight unseen yesterday (fingers crossed) and that kept me busy!

This week's Woolworths Deals look good with lots of half price stuff in the household section.

Is it me or Woolies have more Specials than Coles.
    More value for money.

    • +3

usually grocery getter always misses a few pages. though better to buy actual food and not the crap that goes half price.

  • +1

Comparing for normal price, woolies $4, coles $5.

    https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/kewpie-japane…

Maybe Coles version has a "Japanese" in its name, so it can be sold 20% more.

    • Sesame dressing

Sesame Seeds 5%, Sesame Oil 2%

    • It is more likely due to Coles online being more expensive than instore on non sale/everyday low price items

    Whatever…congrats for new Car.

Finish quantum tablets 80pk $21.24 at Amazon and even less with discounts

  • Hey guys, just wondering, are there any site or services out there which keep track of the price of a particular item for you?
For example, I am waiting for Tim Tams to go on sale half priced. When Tim Tam goes on sale (doesn't matter if it's from Woolworths, Coles or anywhere else) they will send me an email to notify me.

https://pricehipster.com/ is the best service for that. In your case, go here, select the product you want and set up a price alert.

      • +1

Just keep in mind that you probably need to setup multiple alerts - one for each store

thank you so much, I always wanted to do something like this but never knew it existed.

    Thanks for the Spam OP.

  • Why would you buy a car without inspecting it???????

    • +6

I know that it sounds crazy, but ex govt vehicles are usually okay, especially if they have full log book service record and a pink slip. You're not allowed to drive them (auction houses won't let you), and I think only mechanics can start them (and getting the NRMA to inspect is ~$100 or so, per vehicle, and it's very very hard to know if the price on that specific car will be reasonable). You can visually inspect them, but basically they're all the same or very very similar, and if you're a non-mechanic like me all you think is "great, it's a car, it looks clean, and I can't see any dents". And there are usually 5 to 10 of the same make & model vehicles (because the govt buys and sells in bulk) - when I was buying in 2012 the govt was offloading lots of Toyota Yaris and Hyundai i30 - so as a mug punter your odds of economically inspecting any single one at more than a quite superficial level are quite low. Plus, they're often sold before the manufacturer's warranty has expired, so anything mechanically wrong you should be able to get fixed. So I bought one that I only saw when it drove into the auction room, I was only bidding against 1 person (a dealer, who I had observed before only bought when the prices were too low), and we were both bidding in the smallest increments ($100) so I knew I was very unlikely to overpay, bought it with 3 years warranty left, only got to drive it after paying for it, got temporary insurance on it in the parking lot, drove straight to the motor registry to register it in my name, drove it normally for week to find any issues, then booked it into the dealership, got a few minor things fixed under warranty (stuck fuel cap, side mirror motor not working), got them to service it (now that was a mistake, their prices were very high and the service was pretty caca), and it was all good. Would do same again, except for the service at the dealership.
P.s. I am assuming here it's an ex govt car, with log book, pink slip, and manufacturer's warranty! If it's not, well, that's a different story, IMHO :-)

    • If it saves you $5k and has factory warranty….. fairly safe bet.

      • Exactly like above.

        It’s a 2016 Camry Hybrid with 19,000km for $21K unregistered.

After 12 months rego and stamp duty I spend $22,300 driveaway.

Besides some lowballing dealers who used the “Ive already sold that car” excuse, I wasn’t able to find a low km Camry Hybrid at that price.

Car drives perfect fine. Drive it 150km today and inspected underbody and scratches etc. (of which there are none)

  • What car is it?

  • I hope the car runs well. We bought about ten hail damaged cars from pickles about ten years ago, sight unseen to onsell. All except two had substantial mechanical problems and we ending losing on the deal.

  • Serena Tuna hasnt been half price for over a year :(

I usually buy at least 100 tins.. (the 95g version)

  • I've been looking for Telstra Lite Smart 4 since last week catalog and nowhere can it be found; interesting how on this week catalog, it's on special again. I wonder if they'll be restocking every Wednesday, otherwise it would be false advertisement.

  • The chicken chilli kiev is also $1.30 - if you prefer the spicy instead of the garlic version. Saw this in-store.
