If we are having a revolt against camera lens cup listings then is it time for a revolt on these as well?

Advertising, marketing, spam or a bargain? Who can tell?

Clearly advertising, because it's subjective and uses emotive language.

Agreed, seems like rubbish to me.

Is anybody sick of these groupon sites? I feel bad for the businesses offering them as they only get 50% of the money you pay.

50% for a bit of web hosting and a payment outlet? Wasnt ebay copping heaps of stick for charging 7.9% yesterday?

Aside from the fact that we have enough of these photo shoot/make up deals on groupon sites (it seems each day at least one of them has one), this is probably one of the worst value ones I've seen in a while. For $50-$70 don't you normally get $500 "value"?

EDIT: and this is clearly advertising, not sharing a bargain.

It's also completely pointless without giving the prices for other sized prints. Obviously this is where they make their money to subsidise the cheap shoot, so the prices would be astronomical.

      • +1

        Yep.

Hey, we'll give you a photo shoot for free, but charge you $65 for a single 4x6 print!

        • can't you opt to just take the two 12x8 prints and nothing else?

        • +1

I'd assume as much, but it's pretty pointless going for a photo shoot and not being able to keep the photos? A lot of these companies charge $250+ for a soft copy of the photos.

        • -1

they are not twisting your arm to buy more prints, I dont understand your negativity. I think $65 is fair value

        • +1

sonic. why would you bother wasting your time for two small photos? no digital copy to reproduce later, just 2 unframed photos probably from a moderate quality inkjet printer. think about it. does it hurt?

        • +1

Exactly. Just like, for example, a cheap MP3 player with 1gb of internal storage is no good if it has no SD slot etc. Sure, they're not twisting your arm to have more memory, but you want it.

The neg is based on my first post, not everything else I've said.

  • .

  • Not a bargain.

  • If you're getting a family portrait (often $100+ even without a makeup session), then provided there are good photos, this seems like a cost effective way to do it

At $60, how much is it to print 2 photos at 12 x 8 inches at Big W? I forget and haven't got time to look it up now, so let's say it's $9.

    That leaves $50

$20 for 30 mins of a make up artist's time as well as supplies
    $30 for 60 mins of a photographer's time

Plus as it's on location, if you are getting the shots at home, it hasn't even factored in petrol and drive time (to and from)

So, I know there've been a heap of other photo offers, but if you just want a family photo or maybe 2 shots, you can handle hard sells AND they take a good couple of photos, it seems like it could be a good offer.

    • I would suspect pretty much all people that spend their time getting a shoot like this done would want a photo larger than 8x12". Most people would get a full portrait done to hang on a wall. Without disclosure of the prices for larger prints, then this initial charge for the shoot and 2 small photos is useless. It's not like you get the original digital copies to make full quality reproductions later on.

The only pricing I can see is an 11x14" unframed wall portrait being $150…..

Good point … I know some who've gotten smaller but most would be looking for larger.
