$50 Minimum spend on subscription? No bargain!

I feel having a subscription just pressures you to buy stuff you don't need just to make the most out of the subscription. Ozbargains already does that but its FREE.

    • Dont you get a free google thingy if u sign up?

  • just got a Sony DN1080 for $881, pretty happy with that :D

  • +1

No decent alcohol deals. Every "ebay plus" item seems to be 30% more expensive than the non ebay plus items.

  • Any deals on the new 2080Ti? Hehe

I’m a ebay plus member, tried using this “generous” promo code only to get a message saying: This code can't be applied to your order. I must be trying to purchase one of the 88,433 Excluded Other Lots More Items. Not impressed.

    • I'm getting same.

  • +1

I signed up to the trial, forgot to cancel it though. But this sitewide deal isn't even worth it. I want a battery charger, which costs like $40 for everyone but the "ebay plus" sellers have it at $90, so the $9 "saving" is actually COSTING me $41 extra.

I wish I had cancelled my subscription in time, even if it only cost $29.

But this sitewide deal isn't even worth

      It's not a sitewide deal.

      • Sorry mistyped.

Not a problem :) I did the same earlier and got downvoted to oblivion :P

Yeah I regret ever signing up for ebay plus. Every single ebay purchase I have made in the last couple months has been through a non-ebay plus listing due to it be much cheaper.

    • i (profanity) regret is as well worst 29 spend

  • Is it just me or are people noticing a lot of sellers, who initially participated in eBay Plus have stopped, and no longer have any eBay Plus items. ie. MSY Technology and PC.Byte

    • +3

eBay are the ones who decide which sellers get eBay plus on their listings, and the other day eBay removed quite a few listings off sellers..

      • +2

It’s funny, I went to buy two items that were in my watch list, that I knew were Plus items, to now find they are not and have $15 postage.

  • Thanks OP.

Picked up some bathroom renovation materials and when combined with cashrewards and ebay gift cards from woolies using 5% off, have knocked off over $100 already.

With a reno I'll probably need to return some things too, so that's where the deal will shine for my scenario!

  • im looking at getting something for 450 Ish so plus membership is $50 and free google home… so basically get a google home for free ….undecided

    • You can always sell the GHM for like $40, recouping most of the membership cost back. I personally think it's definitely worth it, I've already saved ~$40 and that was only on trials.

    • Can't you do a free trial?

Another negative vote for this ebay Plus deal.

I wanted to buy a Weber Baby Q BBQ but none are listed as ebay Plus at present, and the cheaper deals from a few days ago are gone (Good Guys $291). Several other items I am interested in are also not ebay Plus so this sale is worthless for me.

What's worse about this is the way ebay has been deliberatley misleading in its promotion of ebay Plus. My partner sells a few things on ebay, some with Free Postage and others with postage on top. She has no choice which items ebay chooses to list as ebay Plus, and they don't explain the selection criteria. When ebay Plus first kicked off, they selected a good mix of Free Postage and Plus Postage items to be ebay Plus. It appeared to be random. That seemed to be replicated with other sellers. So ebay's promotion to encourage buyers to get ebay Plus for the free postage made sense.

But ebay quickly changed their selection criteria for what was chosen to be ebay Plus. Now, not one of my partner's listings that has a postage component has been selected as ebay Plus. So much for the buyer benefit of free postage.

  • EDIT: Worked it out

So can we agree that due to the existing price jacking for regular 20% off (and 10% site wide) deals, this sale is almost entirely hot garbage?

  • +4

All the items I want are still cheaper on non-plus listings.

  • +2

Well I found something I wanted, the price wasn't jacked but my free trial of eBay plus had expired after cancelling the membership.
I ended up going through the eBay plus sign up process and thought I'd see what would happen if I linked another paypal account with an expired/cancelled card as the payment method. That was succesful, so I continued on with my purchase, getting the free shipping and also saving 10%, paid with a different paypal account and the order went through succesfully, is in my purchase history with invoice. Not long after my order confirmation, I get an email from eBay:

Unfortunately, the payment for your eBay Plus subscription was declined. Please contact your bank for more information regarding the cause of the decline.

As we didn’t receive the payment, we have cancelled your eBay Plus membership. If you want to continue to be a member of eBay Plus, you can sign up again.

    Oops :) that's a win today

Another eBay sale that's not a sale. They just make me yawn now :)

They are like rug store sales, all hype but no substance.

  • trying to purchase this.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ANNIVERSARY-Demdaco-Willow-Tree-…

and getting the "This code can't be applied to your order."
thoughts on why its not working?

    • Try again - it worked for me.

Are you logged into the right account where you're an ebay plus member?

    • strange, i'm also getting that on my item:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/122359012148

had my reg country set to US so thought that might the issue. changed back to AU but still not working (on desktop or mobile). will let you know if i find a workaround

    • I got in touch with eBay. They couldn't fix it but gave me an equivalent credit voucher to apply to the transaction. I didn't try cheating by claiming to be buying more than I was so just ended up with 10%

  • Good with Mobileciti. Huawei Nova 3i pre-sale with bonus earphone!

  • Was bargaining with a eBay plus vendor, have got the item down by $5 ,if I accept the offer will I be able to apply the code and get another 10 % off ?

    • +1

Yes you will, just enter code at the cart

does it stack with 20% surface laptop deal?

    • It does not, you can only use 1 coupon code at checkout.

It seems that eBay are creating two tiers of service and benefits- a better one for people who are able to afford the (at present) $49 annual fee and an inferior one for the rest.
If a large proportion of buyers sign up to Plus, without doubt the membership cost will rise and they will include more any more benefits exclusively for Plus members which won't be available to "basic" users; and as others have pointed out they will be no 10-20% off for the poorer plebs.

eBay are no doubt working out algo's that decide what item's go on the Plus list based on buying habits and that Plus members will probably just automatically buy without checking other sellers prices because they think, as a Plus member, they are getting the best delivered price.

It's a growing trend in retail (and society)- to separate consumers based on the amount of dosh they have eg. Gold Class at the cinema, Economy Plus on the plane, concierge parking at the airport car park, etc.
It's a wonder the shopping malls don't start having nicer or separate toilet cubicles just for the "select" shoppers who spend over $300 a day at the mall (I claim copyright for the idea if they start doing this ;-)

    • there is a 20% off deal running now

With all the tools available to quickly research prices - both within eBay and across competitor sites - you gotta be pretty lazy to simply click 'buy' on an item without some idea of whether it's a competitive price or not. And if you've gone so far as to pay $49 for an eP membership, I'd say you're likely the kind of consumer who has weighed up the benefits of the membership, and so are also generally inclined to check around on prices before a purchase.

It's a growing trend in retail (and society)- to separate consumers based on the amount of dosh they have eg. Gold Class at the cinema, Economy Plus on the plane, concierge parking at the airport car park, etc.

No one is being 'separated' out - consumers are being offered a choice on the level of service they purchase, which isn't a bad thing. If the difference in price between a standard movie ticket and Gold class is enough to cause someone financial strain, then perhaps they shouldn't be spending money on a cinema visit in the first place.

Next you'll be complaining that Nike Airs are discriminating against those who can only afford Dunlop Volleys.

  • If you are wondering why eBay Plus doesn't seem worth it any more, this is what eBay are now telling me:

"Please don't worry I would like to inform you that as it was available before in your listings currently ebay removed the Ebay plus option for all those sellers who is not offering free postage in there listings and as I can see that now you are offering free postage then very soon your item will come under ebay plus logo."

So what am I paying for eBay Plus for then?

    • I thought the point of eBay plus was to distribute discounted Google Home Minis?
