Compared to the days I used to pay for DVDs and Blu-ray Discs these are great value to own, especially if they came with bonus content (aka iTunes Extras). But in the era of video on demand, the low level OCD in me where it’s own one, gotta own the whole series/franchise, it could still get mighty expensive, with nothing to show for it on the bookshelf…

For all you young kids out there, I paid around $170 for season boxsets of The X-Files, and that was “cheap”, a couple of decades ago.

I feel your pain; I’ve got over a thousand blu rays and DVDs on the shelf; I don’t even want to think about how much I’ve been paying for them over the years. I’ve gone fully digital for the 4K generation though. All my previous HD iTunes purchases upgraded to 4K for free and now I just pick up others I want when I see decent deals like these. The only physical discs I still buy are decent 3D releases since they can’t be purchased digitally. Not much point buying standard physical HD releases anymore since they’re soon up on Netflix in quality that’s almost as good anyway.

      • The pain is real. LOL

      • I still prefer physical disc over digital, looks great on shelf, don't have to worry about reliable internet.

Still buying used bluray off fb/gumtree/ebay

    • I buy all my DVD second-hand (eBay, …)

  • Anyone know if Apple has started supporting macOS or Windows for their 4k content in iTunes? Google suggests they haven't.

iTunes 4K is also streaming only, you can only download 1080p. So if you're on an average connection don't bother.

Yeah, not yet. There’s a new Mac OS update coming in the next couple of months though so there’s a strong chance it might come to Macs then, with a Windows update a few months later.

Grab some 15% off iTunes $50 vouchers from Officeworks first

  • Why ?

You have any iTunes copy…. but you can’t transfer it to anyone else. Bluray are so cheap….. oh…but it’s 4k…. compressed file.

Because this is both cheaper than the HD blu ray and better quality. As with any purchase though, if you don’t want it, I’d recommend not buying it.

  • So this deal is only useful for Apple users exclusively?

For iTunes Australia, I'd say so. But if you didn't mind getting an Apple TV 4K, it's a pretty decent deal.

You'd need to go through a few hoops, but Movies Anywhere opens up a lot of possibilities. They support iTunes (US), Google Play, Prime Video, Microsoft and others.

It not only lets me watch iTunes US content without having to switch accounts, but I found out as all of the content are linked, they show up as my Google Play purchases via YouTube!

      • Movies Anywhere is fantastic and definitely worth connecting if you have a US iTunes account. Hopefully it will come to Australia officially sometime this year so I can swap in my Australian account and merge the rest of my film collection.

    • You can still watch the films through iTunes on a PC, but currently not in 4K. Hopefully a 4K update for iTunes isn’t too far away. This is definitely more worthwhile if you have a Apple TV 4K and/or a iPad Pro or iPhone X.
