Optus BYO Mobile Plan for $85/Month, 203 GB Data, Unlimited Standard National Talk and Text

330

Hi everyone,

I was recently in a live chat with an Optus rep about the My Mobile Broadband Plus 200GB SIM Only (Promo), and it appears that when paired with the $25 SIM Plan a $10 discount applies to both products.

  • Mobile broadband plan - $70 (after discount)
  • $25 sim plan - $15 (after discount)

This plan is eligible for data sharing. Therefore the 200 GB can effectively be shared with the sim plan totalling 203 GB data (at full 4g speeds) with unlimited standard national talk and text.

That's cheap for a year, where do I apply?

Optus website will be my guess…

Just got the note 9 with 200gb over 24mths for 84/month if you're regional.
I'm going to add a 20 buck share SIM once activated, for ten bucks after discount, total 203gb/94 bucks a month.
You'd be better getting it with a phone and selling it…

    • Can I ask how you go about getting this deal? After speaking to someone in live chat the best deal they could give me was $165 for the phone and 200gb. Is this deal only for regional customers?

  • What kind of customer would best make use of the above deal?

Am I right in assuming that this deal would suit someone who:
    1) is looking to cancel their home internet, has good optus signal from home, and uses less than 200gb per month…. AND
    2) links their mobile phone to this account.

Thereby total cost is $85 per month.

Tbh, i'm still struggling to see how this is a great deal though.

    What am I missing?!?

    • People that travel a lot would be my best bet.

Tech support people who are on-call 24x7. Needs to vpn in from wherever they are

  • 203 GB Data

    Oh that's a shame I need a plan with 204 GB data. Guess I'll just keep searching…

Seriously though - where does the extra 3GB come from?

    • 25$ sim only plan give you 3GB

      • Ok, so I think I'm getting it now would be a good deal for people who are either nomads or have no internet at home but I can't help but think the Note 9 plan is a better buy?

        • Again, if you don’t mind 24 months contract, yes.

@quarrymaster: sell the note 9 and subsidise the plan.
No offence OP, but this isn't a deal if you're regional.

        • @quarrymaster: Amazing how quickly time flies. Except when you are locked in a contract with TPG (but that's another story..)

Many people like myself are still on ADSL with max speed less than 5Mbps despite living in suburban Melbourne. Given the poor quality of our copper lines, I don't have much hope when the NBN finally reaches here that things will improve significantly since it will most likely be FTTN. These large mobile data plans from the telcos are very tempting

@Riker88: Many people like myself are on NBN with max speeds less than 5Mbps despite living in suburban Sydney.

          Things haven't changed.

    • Even if I get 500GB, still will not make me smile as Optus signal is horrible at my place. Maximum 2 bars, when it drops to 1 bar which happens often, browsing becomes a torture.

  • It's only $10 discount on the mobile broadband plan…?

    • That's how I thought it worked too. I can't see anywhere that says the phone sim qualifies for the extra $10 discount. Would be great if it does though!

      • Seems like a negotiated deal

  • Hey guys, before signing up. Make sure your area have good capacity, not just 4G coverage. I'm on the edge of their Band 28 (700), and my speed barely hits 5MB/DL 1MB/UP. i'm on a 200GB/month, and i barely hit 10%

    • How would u check this if you currently arent on optus? Is there a site for reference

      • +2

Best is to check for Optus site on http://www.rfnsa.com.au/
This will have all carrier sites in your area, then you check what technology Optus have, if the site is too far (1.5KM) over, chances are you will have bad capacity.

      • get optus $2 sim and check?

        • lol yeah that will also work. but thats $2……

        • @Woosta: will be worth before getting into $$ contract

    • You need to try another band instead. Check if your modem or phone can do it. The Huawei 5186 can

+1 for the random amount of data

Your better off with the telsta $69 40gig unlimited plan even though its shaped after the 40gigs run out, I can still download 400gigs for the remainder of the month.

  • And I thought my deal with two unlimited phone plans for $90 a month with 90GB data shared between us was good…
