Please help, I want to take out the sink mixer..but cannot loosen the connector..

So basically, the hot water pipe is leaking, I want to fix it.
I found I might be able to just buy this one and replace it? They look similar.

But I am not sure. I want to take it out and closely compare, so tried to loosen the pipe but didn't succeed.
So I am thinking I might have to take the whole sink mixer out, but I am stuck.
Please see the photo 2 and 3, I tried to unscrew the connector, tried both clockwise and counterclockwise, didn't get loosen.

So I don't know how to do now…… can someone shed light on this for me..thanks..

  • Some lubricant might help.

Also, this might help, it's hard to unscrew with conventional tools sometimes just because there is not much room…I actually bought one to replace my tap and ended up not needing it…

I just did this 2 weeks ago.

yes, you need to replace that hose if that is leaking.

they suggest replacing those flex pipes every 5 years (at least that is what bunnings dude said.)

they are a standard fitting size. the linked one is fine.

it should undo anticlockwise (twisting from the left to the right)

I used some needle nose pliers to get up and twist. they can be stuck.

when putting the new one in - use at least 8 rotations of teflon tape.. put the tape on in an anticlockwise direction. **only hand tighten - don't try to super tighten it as it will compress the O-ring and it will leak"

    good luck.

  • Altomic has given a great answer.

As long as you've established the leak is coming from the hose, you shouldn't need to remove the mixer.

I assume you're using a spanner. Tools that don't have a fixed grip may make it hard for you to get purchase on the surface and therefore undoing may be difficult. The tool linked above will work too.

Does the nut turn when you try to undo it, or is it stuck fast? If you've got the right tool, you could try increasing the leverage on the tool by extending the handle with a piece of pipe. This will allow you to exert more force on the nut using the same strength.

Don't forget to turn off the water supply (and put a bucket/container under the sink) when you try to loosen the pipe.

  • Looks like you have a pull out mixer. If you want to remove it. Undo the nut of the pull out hose. Then use a tube spanner to undo the nut that's holding the mixer to the sink.

  • Definitely replace it asap! We didn't realise ours was deteriorating until it suddenly exploded one night and hot water started spraying out everywhere. Was very lucky my toddler wasn't nearby! Also lucky that we were actually at home and could turn the water off before everything flooded.

Thanks everyone!! My friend came over and helped me out! Yes you need the right tools to get it done!
