I understand most people don’t like using their points this way, but for 2000 points + $2256 it is much cheaper than you can find this machine elsewhere.

With a RRP of $3499, current online prices have it anywhere between $2900 and $3299.

Also, via redemption, receive 3 months subscription of P&R coffee beans ( 12 x 250g bags over 3 deliveries ) and 4 x 237ml HuskeeCups with lids in the first delivery valued at $230.

You're almost there in the awesome medium scale area of espresso machines..

Avoid junk like the Brevilles, the parts are cheaply made and break far too often, steam boilers leaking / overheating, OPV valve issues, Pressure gauges breaking, solenoid valves breaking.. these machines from the BES900 right through to this are terrible..

You could almost get a profitec pro 500 for this price ($2700) or atleast an ECM / Rocket.

    • +3

That's not really a fair comparison as this machine is more of a semi-automatic for those who are shopping for an automatic machine. I highly doubt anyone buying this machine is even considering a profitec/rocket/ecm. This competes against Juras. If they were, the breville bes920 is less than half the price of this one and a third of the price of the profitec. Maybe you expect your europen machines to last a decade, but most of the cheaper ones won't and you could buy 3 bes920 with that money which would last you a decade. The BES920 is definitely a value for money machine. A friend had one for 4 yrs before the grouphead died, was a $500 fix or buy a new one for $800, but still theoretically salvageable.
TL;DR compare apples to apples, oranges to oranges.

I have a Breville 920 for about 4 years now and have not had any issues with this. Do you mind posting a link to your sources on issues/ quality of parts? Would be good to bookmark it if I ever run into issues and need diagnosing help since its out of warranty.

Just jump onto coffeesnobs forum and read the Breville threads.. it's up to like page 3000 😂

I also forgot to mention flying group handles too when pouring a shot which will smash any cup under the portafilter..

I owned a BES900 for 5 years and I'm not the only one who had a terrible time…

        • From my understanding the general consensus is never deacale your BES900, often goes pear shape afterwards

    • Some nice machines mentioned.

I would recommend staring with a ranchillio silvia, great machine, commercial size group and considered a great entry level recommended by coffee lovers at under $1000. Solid and reliable and probably would have lasted a lifetime. Does require some skill though. I had one for 7 years and sold it for $100 less to upgrade to a rocket which I have just recently sold after 9 years to again upgrade.

For what its worth, choice recommends the Breville The Barista Express BES870 above the Oracle. Not sure that they are experts in this area though.

    • I've had the Oracle for 3 years. Never any issues and always perfect coffee. We go through 2kg of coffee beans per month. Tempted to get this just for the touch screen😆

For this price you can get a great machine like Lelit Diana (PL60T V2) Dual Boiler which has temperature control. There are also more automatic machines with buttons like Nuova Simonelli Musica (so that is a fair comparison I think). Lots of other options as well!

The semi professional machines would be more consistent and reliable than Breville over a longer life span. The only advantage I see to Breville is that it is available at 'normal' retail shops so it's easy to find and look at. Other machines are at specialised shops.

When spending $600+ on a cofffee machine it's probably worth looking at the semi professional machines.

    • I bought this machine for it's semi automatic feature. Only Water ever goes through this machine so it's easy as to clean and it makes pretty great coffee and foam.

      • Which machine do you mean? Breville? Lelit? Nuova?

        • Breville the Oracle

Not disputing what others are saying but I bought the non touch version of this a year ago and I love it.
I would have bought the touch but I choked on the extra $’s.
Good wife acceptance factor due to smaller footprint and lower mess of integrated grinder. Milk texturing is a breeze.
It was a good compromise for me to have less grinding options but simple for the family.
With my Axil beans I get better coffee than I get at 95% of cafes.

I bought from HN and took extra warranty because of the nature of the components. The deal I got included 4 years of ‘swap if broke’.

    • These are the exact reasons these exist. I also have the Oracle. Like any coffee machine, it takes some fine tuning, but does make coffee better than most cafes. We go through about 1.2kg of fantastic mycuppa beans every month. Frequently take it away with us to the snow or to parents.

However, the Oracles do have a lot of problems. They're also notorious for being different between machines. I opted for an extended warranty, 8 years total (incl 1 year of CC insurance), just because dealing with our if warranty claims and trying to use the statutory warranty is a pain in the arse. It's has been repaired a few times.

Thank you OP. I had been waiting to purchase the non touch oracle at the next good guys 20% off sale (~$1750). I was able to purchase it for $1185 with 65000 points from the ANZ credit card. I’m stoked!

    • Yeah, I’ve got 200,000 points and really contemplating it.

Unless you make several cups of coffee a day your are better off buying coffee from a cafe IMO. You can get a $3 cup of coffee everyday for 2 years just for the price of this machine not even factoring in purchasing coffee beans, milk, and periodic cleaning of the machine.

    • Not sure where you live but $3 coffee doesn't exist here in Melbourne and from memory of visiting Perth and Sydney you are out of luck there too

      • Maybe he loves $1 coffee from 7-11 haha

    • To me that says that it is better to buy a semi professional machine that lasts 10 years and makes better coffee than this.

    • Cafe coffee is hit and miss. Mostly warmed milk with a hint of coffee. Any decent machine with fresh beans can make a decent cup and you can make it how you prefer.

We've had a Breville Barista Express for approx 12 months and we love it, it makes coffee as good as most local cafes, all with crappy supermarket Lavazza beans. It currently produces around 100 coffees a month. Best purchase we ever made. I had to return a Breville microwave under warranty recently (just a loose casing which rattled) and they were awesome. When you are selling 500:1 against boutique brands of course you are going to end up with large threads on forums for support issues. What matters is how the manufacturer backs their product.

On the other hand it just took us 8 weeks, about 5 emails, a call to consumer affairs and 15 phone calls to get a refund on a $5000 sofa with Plush that arrived with large stains on it and other manufacturing issues. I guess that's what happens when you are bought out by Fantastic Furniture. Breville handled our claim in 15 seconds and were ultra friendly.

  • I've had a BES870 for about 4 years now making a few thousand coffees in that time - still going strong although I have fitted the shim kit for the grinder that I got for free from Breville (excellent service by the way, they were only too happy to send out the shim kit for free). It's also part of this special from Qantas, $592.48 with 2,000 points - its currently $699 at Good Guys https://www.qantasstore.com.au/p/the-Barista-Express-Coffee-…
