Yes. Telstra etc have been offering e-sim's (+$5) since the apple watch 3.
are these like the current gen apple watch where for $5 pm the carriers enable gsm and you can use it as a phone to make or receive calls and text even if you left your main phone at home ?
They don't have any connection besides WiFi and BT. The next-gen one will have a built in eSIM though.
