Credit Card Fraud - Uber Transactions

I just got 9 unauthorized transactions by uber at 14 of Aug.
I do have an uber account but linked with my PayPal account, those 9 unauthorized transactions were not made under my account as well.
Just called the bank and they said they will do some investigation.

Anyone got same trouble before?

Request charge back from your bank.
Put a hold on your credit card.
    Let bank do investigation.
    Get new credit card number.
    Get your money back.

    Sorted.

Oh, and yes… Lots of people have had their credit card details stolen and used fraudulently, which is why banks have a robust process for returning the money to you.

    • Yes, just asked them to post a new card to me. Thanks mate.

      • Post a new card, but new details?

        • The new card should have new details.

        • @xuchuqw:

          Should, or does?

        • @Drew22: in my case, does

Anyone got smses about "your uber code is xxxxx" like almost every day?

That means they got your password and the 2 step two-step authentication is protecting you.
You need to change your password.

My case is even worse, usually, I have 5 cards in my wallet. Only one of the 5 cards got details stolen and those transactions were not even under my uber account.

      • Does it necessarily mean they have your password? Could they just be resetting the password?

        • could be. so annoying. but i have requested to cancel anyway

Credit card fraud sucks balls. Impacts millions of merchants and cardholders globally, but police unfortunately have higher priorities and the fraudsters for the most part get away with it.

Even if you've not directly experienced it, it would raise the cost of goods and services for everyone intrinsically due to the merchant having to bear the cost of a charge back the majority of the time.

    • I just use cash wherever possible. Fun fact: you lose more money if payment is convenient with no association to physical loss.

Assuming fraud raises the cost for everyone isn't a logical argument. Why can't you assume it just lowers the profits of merchants? Seems equally possible.

      • Yes, equally possible. Larger companies do have a fraud loss/write off budget, so it's on the books, which means it has to come off something.

In the larger scheme of things, the two are the same. Merchants will have necessary margins, and they'll compete down to those margins. Without these associated costs, merchants would lower costs further through competition - so in effect fraud raises costs compared to what they would otherwise be.

As a small business they can really hurt not to mention a banks investigation can take months. Fraud for uber apparently is a big deal.

  • Anyone know how to close uber accounts?

Just PM me your username, password, date of birth, mothers maiden name, pets name, favorite colour, school you went to, bank account number and the last three transactions on that account…

I'll help close it for you.

Yep; wasn’t even an Uber customer … Their customer service was pretty much useless when I queried them …

    • They said they are proud of their no hot line service center.

Uber Fraudulent Charge to My Credit Card -09/12/2015

    • Thanks, uber deducted 201 dollars in about 6 hours for 9 transactions. I did not use uber that day.
I noticed that you had email conversation with Uber, can I have their customer service email address, please?

  • Does Uber use those ridiculous mobile electronic payment devices to process credit cards? Because the security on those things is laughable.

Have you never used Uber? It is all done in app.
