Cold air induction inlet

Hey guys, I bought a 2014 outlander recently which was in other words "not looked after"

And Is missing its cold air intake. So with parts around the house I made something work, just to be able to get it on the road.

Wondering if this is ok and do no harm ?

  • You probably need a filter firstly, if that fails and goes into your engine you're probably going to be up for some big damage.
Just call a couple of wreckers or check Gumtree shouldn't be too hard to get the box. I wouldn't drive like that.

    • The airbox/filter is there, I just was missing the air inlet (whatever it's called)

  • Get the parts, new or from wreckers. You will get dust/dirt in your engine and cause damage otherwise.

  • Have ordered part, coming from W.A. However going in for r.w.c tomorrow I had to come up with something

    • HA ! Good luck.

Why not put it off for a week and just do one trip?

      • It's going to pass. As long as it drives I'll have the certificate.

Don't know previous owner but wow, was it in really bad condition (body, tyres,Paint, mechanical)before I went over it, justifies in the price I bought it for I guess.

  • Only on OzBargain…

  • Just started looking at outlanders today on carsales, next thing your post……….must be meant to be.

    • as long as you check the vehicle condition, it should be ok, he did say it justified the price. You get what you paid for

If the filter is there you don’t really need it. It does seem a little restricted, but will PROBABLY work fine and not cause any harm.

  • As long as the air is filtered ie. the correct filter is in place your engine will not be damaged. With the restricted intake path however, performance will suffer. I understand this is a temporary situation as you have the correct intake parts on the way so thats OK. All modern engines are what's known as "self healing", that is the on board computer will adjust air/fuel ratios to compensate (to a point of course) for different conditions in both the intake and exhaust side of the combustion process. The point I'm making is that even if your temporary air intake is less than ideal, the computer will compensate for that and not run too rich/lean. As long as the air is properly filtered your engine will not suffer damage.

  • gut out the fog lights , route the CAI hose onto the hole in front

    instant +25hp and +30mpg

Cold dense air > Hot air

CAI is to avoid engine sucking hot air when you're idling / stuck in traffics.

Don't forget to paint your callipers red for extra 25kW

    • Put some stickers on the windows too
