Aw man, I'd buy if it was nearly any other color.

    Another overpriced bag, like Crumpler

    • +1

      Crumpler has a lifetime warranty.

What's up with these bags? I seem to see every Nordic and Chinese person wearing these now and they look pretty lackluster.

have you ever wanted a bag, that not only looks like a bag, but can be used as a bag?
well then this may be the bag for you

    • I actually came here to post the same thing. In the last 12 months I have seen dozens of Fjallraven Kanken backpacks in Alaska, Norway, Germany, China and Japan predominantly worn by females under 30.

What's so special about this brand that makes them so popular? Were they endorsed by a celeb or someone instafamous?

Fjällräven has been a household brand across Scandinavia for at least 50 years… It used to be the mark of the hippie/alt crowd including the 90s grungers in Scandinavia, so as a Scando it's been sort of fun to watch the brand grow into an international hipster powerhouse over the last couple of years.
I haven't had a Kånken for 20 years but a large part of the attraction back then, especially for the groups that it tended to appeal to, was that they were simple, well-built backpacks. They're sturdy metal-zippered canvas bags that can take a beating and then some, in a world where most competing products were made from nylon with plastic zippers.

I was in Scandinavia in the 90s, but the two most fashionable brands in school bags were Fjällräven and EastPac, the latter in part because of the lifetime warranty on stitching. Things are exxy there, so ideally they'll last a while.

Anyways - are they overpriced? I think so, but that's not so much a comment on the quality as it's a comment on the general price of backpacks sooo…

      • So it's like Aldi coming to Australia? Unknown forever and now a damn cult following whenever they open their doors.

        • +1

Well - sort of similar I guess… Entirely different quality propositions and, in Scandinavia at least, the cult following for Aldi has been more about the computers than the actual supermarket ;)

        • @nebakke: Haha wow. Didn't even know Aldi made/sold computers. Crazy lol.

      • Thanks for that.

Thought it might have been like North Face Jackets a few years ago, when a factory in China started pumping out copies en mass, and all of a sudden they were everywhere.

      • Yes! They're amazing quality, can take a good beating. They're also functional and practical too. Women's fashion can often be impractical (fake zips, shallow pockets lol) and uncomfortable so it's nice to have a cute and practical backpack that comes in many colours and sizes that is really comfortable to use!

    I'd rather buy a jansport

  • The americantourister City bag at Myer is $40

    • Good find but looks terrible

  • +2

I would pay $20 for it. It would make a good foldable day pack - one that you fold up for travelling. No waist strap and no chest strap limit it to urban use

    • That's what it's for……. it's made by a designer brand, hence the price.
