Mate Communicate issue (CLOSED)

Ok guys, I signed up a FTTN NBN service with Mate Communicate a month ago, but cancelled before the service is activated.

They charged me for one month fee already (WHICH IS NOT REQUIRED IN THE FIRST PLACE), but now they said I'm not entitled to refund due to change of mind.

The staff who processed the cancellation didn't say anything to me about not being able to refund, and even told me refund will be processed in 3 days

What kind of BS is this? Do I have a ground to complain to TIO here?

P/S the main reason which got me angry is during sign up, I was prompted by the sale rep to make an advanced payment (which I DON'T HAVE TO).I can wait till service connected before I pay for the frist month. I didn't think much then obviously. But now they're saying once payment processed, no refund allowed due to change of mind. Sound like they're tring to be sneaky to hook you up, without letting you know the T&C.

UPDATE: MATE had agreed to refund the fee as a good will. So all good, we can be MATE again next time :)

    What does your service contract say?
    Are you allowed to cancel service before signing-up?

      • +2

        Isn't it up to oneself to read the T's and C's before signing a contract?

        Or does one expect to sit there for 2 hours whilst the Customer Service Officer reads every point to them?

          @Droid11:

          They didn't bother read to me anyway, so how would I know

          That was a rhetorical question, of course they're not going to read it to you. They expect you to be able to read.

          @Droid11:

          First you said you signed up online.
          Now you saying you singed up on the phone.

          Which is it?

    It is in their terms and conditions - they didn't rip you off - they did exactly what they told you they would do - you are the one who agreed to their terms when you signed up and then decided to back out - " No pro-rata credits or refunds are offered for cancelled accounts". Just to make it even more clear: " If you place an order for an nbn™ plan and cancel the order due to change of mind, no refund will be provided once you have received notification that payment has been processed."

    Sounds like you are not being a very good mate to them….

      • They are not obligate to.

        Why wouldnt you ask?

        • I did though, the guy did the cancellation for me even told me I should get refund in 3 days ..

        • @Droid11:

          Do you still have the recording of your call or did you recorded your call, you can ask them why you are being told is contradict the T&C

      • Why did you assume you could cancel for change of mind in the first place?

          I don't know, common sense I guess?

        • +7

          @Droid11: But that's the opposite of common sense. The general rule is that no refunds are given for change of mind returns or cancellations.

          @HighAndDry: I'm not gonna go into debate about this. Just good practice I guess. I remember I had no problem previously with ISP like IINet before, definitely no problem before service is activated.

    Maaaaaaaate, very misleading title, can you please edit it to "I didn't bother to read T&Cs and now I'm sad"

  • just to sum:
    they are not your MATE

    • After this incident, I now know they're just another Buzz 2.0 in the making. Call centres got no to answer too, not even with sales FFS. Even Buzz got people answering their phone.
