Thinking of travelling to Sydney from Melbourne during 19th - 21st of October, has sales for these periods passed? Seem to find fairly expensive flights, does anyone have any promo codes for domestic flights?

You want a return trip between two capital cities departing on a friday returning on a sunday within 3 months time 'cheap'? Good luck. Try the thursday to saturday option.
