After the success of our first deal posted by another user, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/392242 we have talked to Yeelight and are offering what I think is the cheapest ever on this smart bulb. The next cheapest I can find is $21.93 from Bangood and we ship from Sydney.

  • How much is shipping for one?

    • $7.95 for any order under $50.

    • Apply discount at checkout and then choose paypal option, then price resets to AU$24.95. Hmmm. :-/

How about a deal for the colour bulbs?

  • How does this Yeelight bulb work with physical switch? Had one long time ago, worked fine on Xiaomi app, but every time I used physical switch to turn it on or off, then the app became useless and had to reset it.

    • I use them at home and have no problems connecting again after using physical switch. The brightness does reset, but google home and app connection stays.

    • +1

The app still works fine after using the physical switch - a short delay while the bulb re-establishes a connection but after a few seconds the app and google home work fine.

      • yes - it stays. and you can even set default state on restart.

For anyone that doesn't know, Mi Home is now compatible with both Google Home & Amazon Alexa.

This means you no longer have to change the server to Singapore.

The server can stay on Mainland China, staying compatible with Xiaomi gateway, switches, and other devices.

    • +1

Can confirm. Have my RGB Yeelight connected to my Google Home.

    • Unfortunately, If this is the v2 white bulb, it doesn't support Mi Home :(

      • I don't have a V2 bulb yet but the bulb shows in the Mi Home device list.

        How do you mean?

        • @Aldog24: It should work now.

Before you could only use the Yeelight bulbs with Google/Alexa on the Singapore server, via Yeelight.

Now you can use the China server, via Mi Home.

          This is recent.

        • @xev:

I am pretty sure I had tried since they made the announcement on the Chinese servers… but I will try again tonight! Thanks!

        • I have a V2 colour bulb because the price difference on colour vs white is like only 10% instead of 40%.

It connects to Mi Home just fine and works like a normal one except it's 800 lumens instead of 600 lumens. (They had to iron out some kinks at first (didn't stay in a group) but now it's all good).

    • thanks @xev, is there any good guide to setup mi home with google home?

      • Make sure your device is set to the Mainland China Server

In the Google Home App, click on the 3 lines in the upper left-hand corner.
Click on Home Control, and then the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner and click on Manage Accounts.

Find Mi Home on the list, click and sign in to your Mi Home account.

It should then automatically show compatible devices.

For me, it is 1 (V1) White Globe, 2 (V1) RGB Globes, an LED Strip, a Bedside Lamp and a WiFi Plug (not Zigbee)

You should probably unlink Yeelink it that shows under Linked Services.

        • +1

Thanks a lot @xev, will give that a whirl :)

    • Thanks. As in you can use the Xiaomi Gateway to control the Yeelights on the China server ?!

  • slightly off topic (I bought 4 of these off this seller today)
The Phillips Yeelight - I can't get that to register with Alexa.
It sees the bulbs but wont control - I have them working with the mi home app though.
    Any advice ?

    • They are Xiaomi Philips. As far as I know, they don't work with Google/Alexa.

Which is a bummer as I am currently using 4.

  • OP, I need one with Bayonet; do you sell them?

    • +1

Yeelight only comes in E27, you can buy cheap adapters though.

    • you'll likely need an adaptor for these ones if i remember correctly

    • I don't think they make them with bayonet, but you can get an adaptor on eBay for around $1.

    • Yes I have one hanging with adapter but thought things has changed. ok thanks folks!

    • +1

I bought some E27 fittings from Bunnings (around $5 each) and then paid a licensed electrician to turn off my power, unscrew the existing fittings, carefully note how the wires were connected to the existing fittings, replace them with the new fittings and screw back to the ceiling.
I questioned the safety of the adapters so preferred to get actual fittings.

Has anyone measured the power draw of these when the light is off?

  • The deal happens to feed my latest need. Also bought 4. Thanks a lot!

  • $22.47 AUD not including postage for RGB version at zapalstyle - https://www.zapalstyle.com/xiaomi-yeelight-e27-smart-wifi-rg…

    • It's $33.69 once shipping and Harvey Norman Tax are added

      They won't have Australian approval.

      • Aka a piece of paper that says Australian approved. Legally the store has to have it to sell them. Nothing physically different between the two.

        • +2

In the end, I am not sure they are fully approved. A search on the ERAC equipment database has no listing of the either the model or the "certificate" number quoted on this vendor's webpage.

        • @SydChrome:

          Hmmm

Makes all the difference if you have a house fire, particularly if it is what started it.

Don't think it won't happen. I have Belkin WeMo Switch that got a bit melted.

        • +1

@not a bargain: People have been throwing up the insurance line here for years and no one has yet to provide proof.

        • @Clear:

I just moved house and here in the new place, the previous elderly occupants installed a whole stack of Yeelights that I am not 100% sure came with a piece of paper saying they were Australian approved. I also can't confirm whether some electrical work they had done over the past 50 years had been completed by a licensed electrician… If my house burns down am i SOL?

        • @chriso1: Yes you had electrical work done by an unlicensed electrician, that is illegal. Using Yeelights without SAA certification however are not.

        • @Clear:

I have only had work completed by a licensed electrician. But maybe the previous owners, in the 50+ years they lived there, had some work completed by an unlicensed electrician.

    • Looks like it's for the older 600lm (9W) version. New version is 800lm

  • Luminous Flux: 800LM

Sold out guys. Thanks for the awesome response. Make sure to follow Latest Living as we will be doing more deals like this.

    • Hi, there! I received my four yeelight bulbs yesterday and thanks for the fast delivery. However, one bulb out of the four I purchased is not working and not lightening up at all. This is interesting as I have got quite a few Yeelight color/white ones working great in my home settings, and I always feel the build quality of Yeelight bulbs are top notch. So how is this possible that I have a faulty one? Any solutions?

  • +1

Holy Moly! Already sold out. I guess I would have to spend more time in dark.

  • IIRC 800 lumen output is equivalent to an old 60W incandescant bulb.

With better downward directed output - perhaps 120 degrees (half [lux] brightness at 60 degrees off [maximum] centre), compared to the omnidirectional incandescant sprayer!!
Little reflected light from the ceiling tho - more like a downlight, or 'floody' torch hanging from the ceiling.

Doesn't waste output through needing a reflector light fitting.
An enclosed fitting could even cook the electronics - as LED efficiency might be only 15 - 30% of energy input, the remainder being output as HEAT.

"The Inverse Square Law" (WikiP) indicates that 800lm, cf 600, only appears some 15% brighter (800/600)^0.5 to our third chimp eyes.
To "get twice the apparent brightness" of an old 60W incandescant globe, needing illumination (lumens) to be quadrupled to 3,200.

    Diminishing gains?
