[Mungi] - Lightning 100 Plans Being Cancelled as of September

Got this email today. Really disappointed with this.

Hi YoJabbaJabba,
I would like to thank you for choosing Mungi Internet and your support since you’ve joined us.
Please be advised that as of the 30th of September 2018, we will be discontinuing the Lightning 100 plan. We’ve ceased new orders of this plan already.
From this date onward, your plan will be downgraded to the Lightning 50 plan at $64.95 per month automatically and will apply to your next billing cycle onwards.
I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and for the sudden change of your plan. Mungi has gone through substantial changes to our processes and networks which was the result of a major investment into our network and business. Due to the cost of operating multiple networks, difficulties in ensuring compliance and maintaining our high customer service levels, it’s become unsustainable for us as a business to continue offering the Lightning 100 plan.
I can assure you, we’ve explored every avenue possible and this was the only option that was available for us to choose that allows us to continue operating our business and servicing our customers.
Your new plan will allow us to ensure a great network experience especially in relation to domestic and international connectivity, maintain our high levels of customer service and features and most importantly, ensure the future sustainability of our business.
What this means for your service:
On the 30th of September, your plan will automatically be downgraded to Lightning 50 at $64.95 per month
If you decide to leave Mungi, we’ll organise a pro-rated refund of the remainder of your billing cycle
If you downgrade your plan before the 27th of August, we’ll organise a free Static IP to your service, a $5 per month credit for 5 months and a credit of the difference between your old plan
If you wish to downgrade your plan before the 27th of August to take advantage of the free Static IP and the $5 credit per month for 5 months or to cancel your service and get a pro-rated refund, please reply to this email and our team will be able to process this for you.
Please see attached a copy of your new Critical Information Summary with more information regarding your new plan if you decide to continue with Mungì.
Please feel free to reply to this email or send us an SMS at 0427 188 626 if you have any questions or concerns regarding this plan change.
Thank you for your support and patience as we further build our business to ensure its sustainability and as we become a leader in excellent service both network and satisfaction wise.
Regards,
Jamie, Abs & Sandra

Any recommendations for a 100/40 plan that doesn't cost the world?

I'm in the same boat as you. Sigh :( I'm thinking Telecube for $85-95/month but their customer service isn't as good as Mungi. I know you get what you paid for but having gone from BuzzTelco to Mungi and now this, tempted to just cut my losses and move to 50/20

Edit: Looked at Click Broadband and Sumo has other alternatives but they don't have a great guaranteed peak speed, both with Vocus. 'Ultimate Plus Plan can achieve between 12Mbps and 100Mbps download speeds and between 5Mbps and 40Mbps upload speeds'

    • Just move to 50/20. I did and haven't really noticed much difference. The extra cost isn't worth it.

    • Same here. Can't find any other 100/40 plan as reasonable priced as Mungi (which I must say I am impressed with their performance after L2 rollout). Seems like Telstra doesn't provide 100/40 plan anymore as well, at least I can't find it on their website.

I might just stick to 50/20 and accept the free Static IP, as it's worth $10/mth in MyRepublic.

      • is the free static IP for life? or for the first 5 months?

        • I believe it's for life. But don't quote me on that. As I see no benefit of providing free static IP for 5 months, just when people have setup their servers, and take it away. That will be really bad marketing.

        • @ausdday: i might take the offer if that's the case.

Yeah it's for life, confirmed by Jamie here: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2679103&…

        • @fLaMePrO:

Thanks mate for the confirmation. :)

Happy to accept the downgrade, as technically I will be paying $54.95 per month for 50/20.

        • @ausdday: How is it 54.95?

        • @carlJack:

$64.95 including the "free" static ip (which worth $9.95 if you take the option upon signup). For me, the free static IP will eliminate my need of VPS. I can cancel my VPS subscription now.

    Yet another NBN fail.

    Next!

    • so, what's next?

      • Thinking of changing to Amaysim $90 unlimited 100/40 with $15 cashback from cashrewards while i find something better. Need to stay with them for a minimum of 60 days to get the cashback though hmmmmmm.

Why would they get rid of it completely? Just charge extra like everyone else.

    • to avoid ACCC fines for not reaching 100mbps i guess ?

      • +3

Their speeds were awesome though, pretty much always got 96/38 even at peak times.

        • This. They had done some major upgrades about a month ago; I went from 70/35 to 96/36 consistently. :(

The reality is NBN Co. makes it unsustainable for small companies to provide 100/40. If they set the price too high, no one will join them. If they set it too low, it's unsustainable for them. And if they do a MyRepublic, by squeezing a lot of customers into a single bandwidth, they will not deliver the speed they promise and get a fined

  • With so many RSP's in the market, a few of the cheaper ones who aggressively tried to attract market share were bound to have problems eventually. Looks like Mungi have joined Telecube on this list. There's probably a few others.

    Oh well.

  • *Frustrated face :(.. I am keen to know what everyone else will do re finding another 100mbps plan. I have just done a search for 'NBN comparison deals', but as of yet I haven't seen a comparison site that searches 'all' providers (and not just for endorsed companies like Telstra and Optus). There must be a similar or better deal out there - on the NBNco site there is literally hundreds of different providers listed.. just need to find a way to do a comprehensive speed and price comparison listing..

    Dear OP

Go to an internet provider comparison site and plug in your priorities.
That is what they are there for.

Google "NBN compare" or something similar or more specific

    • Thanks for your recommendation.

  • Just signed up ABB today. Here's my speed comparison of Mungi and ABB (FTTP):

    Around midday (non-peak): https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/94742/61296/capture.pn…

Peak period at around 9pm: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/94742/61307/capture.pn…

I guess in this case you really get what you pay for…

  • Despite me switching to ABB two weeks ago, Mungi are saying my service is still active and they are going to charge me pro rata for this period. Disgusting.

    • What's your connection type? FTTP?

      • FTTN- It’s been resolved now thankfully.
