    Good game, great price!

    Askhole lives!

  • Thanks OP. Do you know the age rating ?

    Edit - It’s PG !

    • You're Welcome mate !!

Only your own language will be X rated when playing this. One of the most frustrating games I've ever played.

      • So is it suitable for kids to play or too difficult?

        • See zonras comment below. It feels like after 8 years, they rushed the release and it's just unpolished. If it's your kids introduction to video games there are lots of other games which will be far easier to pick up. Multiple times I was stuck due to Trico not understanding C or running in the wrong direction.

Apparently can have some frame rate issues on standard ps4, but on the pro @1080p it’s locked to 30 and doesn’t drop. Very pretty game, especially the latter half.

If you are getting for a kid then make sure they have a guide handy, as it can be hard to work out how to progress is some sections.

    Definitely recommend it, great gane

make sure they have a guide handy

      Sacrilege.

    • +3

make sure they have a guide handy, as it can be hard to work out how to progress is some sections.

Not sure if they've patched it but in my experience it's hard even knowing exactly what to do.
As in you can't directly control Trico but only give commands just as you would a dog.
I'm sure it's more realistic and whatnot but it was seriously frustrating at times when the bloody thing just looked at me and went "Huh?"

Make Trico a bit smarter and add in Chapter Select and the game will be close to perfect.

      • Not only that… (spoiler alert)

There are leap of faith moments in the game where you have to jump and expect Trico to do certain things. Even with a guide, the guide doesn't tell you what exactly you need to press (because it assumes you would know). There are cases where after you jump, you do need to move towards a certain spot (while in the air).

Also, there is at least one area that I know where if Trico doesn't lower its tail in the right spot, you simply have to restart from checkpoint. I had to restart 5 times for Trico to eventually lowered it to the right location.

Is this that game with the misbehaving dog thing?

    • We referred to it as the cat-bird.

  • +7

I dunno, seems like it could be a possible PlayStation free game in the future. Not gonna risk it

    • Yeah nah defs will be at some point.

Bought (physical copy), played, then sold it to EB games during V-Bucks promotion. Ended up with more PSN credits than what I paid initially.
Occasionally, you can make a tiny bit of profit by combining OZB deals, but I still ended up making way too many impulsive purchases.

    It's a very good game.

The soundtrack is just wonderful and it's a great puzzle game.

Great for the kids to put the brain to the test and not one of the games that give you a weapon to have an objective to kill something or somebody.

You either like it or dislike it……

I love it because of the games Fumito Ueda made Shadow of Colossus and Ico are also brilliant.

This trailer has sold the game to me lol

The E3 2015 trailer at the PS conference was legendary, watch Boseman and Huber's reaction to it from the Gametrailers Live React vid of the 2015 PS Event.

WARNING: The controls for this game is really really bad

    • +1

Don't forget the camera angles! A shame, as at times it's startlingly beautiful experience and the next hour is spent with Trico running all the way down the tower. It's like they wanted a 20 hour game and the only way they could do that is to hide the next doorway and make Trico have the logic and grace of a pet hamster.

    • This game is wonderful, beautiful and engaging - and indeed almost completely destroyed by its awful controls and motion.
Trico is by far the best aspect, being an unwieldy cat friend, and occasionally breaks as well.

  • -4

Keep in mind it’s a HD remaster of a PS2 game and still controls like one, despite some welcome improvements to those controls.

    • +1

No it's not? Are you thinking of shadow of the Colossus?

      • +4

Oh yes I was. Damn, last guardian controls like a ps2 port though.

        • -1

Have you played the PS4 or PS3 version? They remade the PS4 version completely and it feels fine.

        • +2

Shadow of Colossus (PS4 - remake): The controls are fine, the camera angle, unfortunately, can be frustrating at times (especially in hard mode time attack, where you only have limited time to defeat a colossus).

This game (the last guardian): It has camera angle issue and the issue is that the game is designed so that Trico doesn't always do / understand what you want it to do. Sometimes you just need to wait a bit.

Agro in Shadow of Colossus can sometimes be like that a bit (but in battles with the colossi, Argo does what you want). Apparently, both are intentional to make it feel more realistic - i.e. animals don't always do what people want them to do - but that can be frustrating in games.

I finished this game a couple of weeks ago. I won't lie - this game had me almost in tears at the end. Very emotional.

Of course there were also tears of frustration at the controls and random sudden camera shifts, but it's a short game and worth playing to the end to see how the story plays out (make sure you watch after the credits)

This was $17.95 on 5/5/18 at 4.40pm. How do I know? Because I was on my way to Etihad Stadium for the A League Grand Final Live Site, when I got an email receipt from Sony for a game purchase at that time. Turns out that back at home (with the screen off) my one year old found a PS4 remote and pressed enough buttons to somehow purchase this game. Couldn't believe it - and as someone who has only ever played FIFA or NBA2K, needless to say I was pretty disappointed in his choice hahaha

    • Your one year old should have purchased more games. That way, your better half couldn't complain.

  • Awesome

  • Is this really any good? I remember it being hyped for years before release, then over released I heard nothing and saw it constantly on sale under the $20 mark

    • It's a game designed by Fumito Ueda (he designed Shadow of Colossus). The question is really whether you feel the animal behaviour that Trico exhibits is more of a plus (more real) or too much frustration. Fumito Ueda believes real animals don't obey / act on commands issued by a human all the time. So you have Trico being really good sometimes and ignoring your commands for a while sometimes.

There is also trust / relationship building throughout the game so that Trico will do more for you as the game progresses. It's a slow pace game and you will probably be more open minded to it if you played Shadow of Colossus before. If you played Shadow of Colossus before, you would be more incline to tolerate the annoying auto camera angle adjustments. I got it because I really enjoyed playing Shadow of Colossus.

  • The way you all talk about this, it seems to remind me of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Would that be a valid comparison?

    • Not really imo.
I’ve played both, Last Guardian is kinda similar to ICO (duh, it’s another Ueda game) in the sense that one character has to guide (for lack of a better word) another character along the journey.
Brothers lets you control both in a co-op kind of way.
The former is a more frustrating experience at times for me.

Visually, LG is pretty epic most of the time, until you’re stuck in a narrow corridor with Trico.
Brothers goes for a different art style that works well.

P/s: Brothers is hugely underated btw, great experience, some really amazing design choices in the gameplay.
(Can’t say too much without spoilers but that game knows how to tug some heart strings)

  • I recently finished Shadow of the Colossus and have been looking at this. Good deal
