NFC or b28 support? Better than Sharp Aquos S2? Why would I want to get this over the Xiaomi Mi A2?

Covered all OzB questions i think

    • Looks like a no to both.

    • NFC yes but may be disable by the operating system according to this article:
      https://www.androidauthority.com/meizu-pro-6-plus-review-770…

"Although the Pro 6 Plus’ hardware includes NFC and a heart rate monitor, both of these features were disabled in the global firmware at the time of writing. The hardware is here, but the global software is currently unable to work with it. Hopefully Meizu will fix this for global users very soon."

      B28 no.

    • The processor is quite high end. Equivalent to a Snapdragon 820, and the display is AMOLED with 2k resolution.

This would be a good phone for the chinese market but here in Aus no B28 and no NFC means less utility as a phone. It does have NFC hardware but disabled out of the box.

      • I'm very late with my comment about this phone. I'm very surprised at the wrong assumption.

NFC works on my Meizu Pro 6 Plus after I switched it to Chinese FlyMeOS. I always use it!! I just used NFC pay today and that assumption is very wrong, every single day I use it just hold the phone to the eftpos machine for a few seconds or so and it rumbles payment accepted.

It's very easy to switch the update to the latest OS from stock. The global OS was outsourced to an incompetent development team and it's never ever going to be updated to the current Chinese FlyMeOS.

I'm very happy with this phone and I don't find anything problematic with it at the moment. It's a cheaper alternative than buying a refurb Samsung S7 and it has iPhone 6/7/8-like build quality finish but looks like an Oppo phone. The OLED display is a whole different league in watching my favourite things on my phone than on a computer with IPS display. Blacker blacks and OLED as great as my Sony HMZ-T3W OLED headmount display. NFC works, Face recognition works, Fast charge on USB-C 1A-USB slot works. No Band 28 or external storage but a USB-C MicroSD OTG adapter works out for me.

        • It's not a practical all rounder phone like the Sharp Aquos S2 everyone is bragging about but its specs, audio and display is still the best value to me at this price point. It ticks all the features I want out of it but lacks B28 and Micro SD.

Agreed. Sharp Aquos S2 has made me see phones differently.

Aquos S2 has done to me today what Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 did for me ~3 years ago

Aquaos S2 user here too. Astounded at how brilliant it is. Every other phone has to hav e at least the same features as this phone to be even considered by me now.

        • Totally agree. I still wish there was a headphone jack but it's no biggie I guess..

Do you use it as "standard" with TW firmware or have you modded it with custom ROM/Magisk/other?

        • @illumination: Just running the TW Android 8.0 ROM and using Nova Launcher pro.

        • Another happy Sharp Aquos S2 user. Shame is out of stock now, this thing is brilliant!

      • S2 is great, my only problem is that it can't connect to 2.5ghz wifi, works fine 5ghz. Anyone else having this problem?

      You forgot notification LED

      • I'm late to comment about this phone. I own one. And again, very wrong assumption. It has Notification LED. Pictures https://imgur.com/a/uvpzJAo

    • NFC, B28 & Notification LED are correct.

New kid on the block is Android One. I simply won't recommend a phone which doesn't come with Android One.

  • Specs look so similar to an S7 edge!

  • Looks like a good buy. Especially if you go with optus. Only has 2/4 for Telstra 4G Bands.

    https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/AU/meizu-pro-6-…

    • Wouldn't voda be a better option, given they don't use b28?

  • lack of official and custom rom update is an issue. Won't get update to newer android versions.

  • Anyone's waiting for Meizu 16?

  • -1

I wouldn't buy anything from the Meizo brand. Such poor quality.

    • -3

I have no experience with Meizo brand but can only suggest that you buy at your own risk. Make sure you have some good glue and a micro tool set handy..

      • +2

If you don't have any experience with it then you don't have any say. You shouldn't need any glue or tools to use the phone.

    • It's Meizu and I have a Meizu note 6 and it's a great phone with very good cameras.

  • I was deciding between this or a Redmi Note 5 and went with the latter in the end only because there was custom Rom support.
However this phone still has very respectable specs even though it was released two years ago.

    32-bit/192kHz

    LMAO …

      ?
If it's the real thing, the Sabre DACs are amongst the best out there…
