My son is going to Canada for a year. He will have to 'park' his local phone number here, which is easy, and get a Canadian number when he lands there.
I know that using a mobile phone can be expensive there, but how expensive?
Does anyone have any recent long-term experience in that part of the world? Advice welcome.

I was there for 3 months for work earlier this year.
Prepaid was pretty terrible, ended up signing up for a contract (postpaid, can cancel after 3 months). I think I was paying $45+tax per month for 2.5GB. Was with Fido which is a low(er) cost subsidiary of one of the larger telcos there.
wind was significantly cheaper when i was there. now freedom mobile https://www.freedommobile.ca/plans-and-devices/plans
AT&T in America, good plans with free roaming into Canada and Mexico for calls and data.
Does that mean that you can get an AT&T US service in, day, NYC and use it all the time in Canada?
Yes.
