TV Power Point in Townhouse Shared Wall?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help with this.

I have a townhouse and want to put tv on the shared wall between myself and neighbour.

The house exterior is double brick and the shared wall I believe is single brick.

Would this be possible? Or any suggestions on best way to tackle?

Idea is just so tv is mounted and cables are out of the way/not visible.

  • Why would it NOT be possible…?

    • Well, for one thing if it's single (but solid) brick, there's no real place to run the cables behind the wall unless they're going through the neighbour's house…. UNLESS it's as TheBilly says and there's a cavity. shrugs I'm definitely not a builder.

Yes it will be possible. It is likely that the brick wall actually has a 25mm or similar timber or steel channel to which the gyprock is screwed. Even if it does not, when they direct glue the gyprock typically there is still enough room to run wires behind although a little bit more difficult. But over all, not a tough or impossible task.

  • If it's a shared wall, I won't be single brick. Do you have access to the roof cavity?

  • Even if it's single brick you could gingerly chase it into the wall, even if the cable is just below the surface (when re-patched) it's fine as long as that circuit is protected by a rcd, call a spark imo, we get this sort of thing all the time and have plenty of tricks…

  • Thanks all, sounds like any good electrician can do this!

    • Yeah just get someone out and ask them. Explain over the phone the issue and they’ll see it for themselves and decide the best option or will present you wii a few options for you to choose.

  • If you're looking to just hide the cables

Goto bunnings, buy a length of rectangular conduit. It's white, paintable, you can double sidded tape it to your wall (or just use 2 screws like i've done), and it looks a treat. Much easier than getting electricians in etc

If you're in need of a powerpoint, listen to what others have said. It will cost you around $300-500 i'd say. It's definitely not cheap if you want them to chase the wall, and then you need to patch it, paint it…
