    I don't understand how people use this one, since it will indiscriminately "mop" over carpet as well… can any owners comment?

      I have one and yes it will mop over the carpet if you let it. But you would have to install the mop attachment, then set it to "mop" mode instead of vacuum and then tell it to clean everything.
      What I do is use the "clean area" function when I'm using the mop so it only does my hard floors. But the mop isn't great so I don't use it very often.

    I helped my mum to set it up. It doesn't work with China Mainland region server if you get the Australian version, it just cannot find it even you are connected to wifi.

    To get it to work, you need to use the Europe region server. If you have the other Xiaomi product that is connected to the Mainland China region server, it means you need to keep switching your region, sign out then sign in to manage your Xiaomi products, which is very frustrating.

    The positive thing is you are not monitored by China government XD (I wish) and Robot Vacuum Cleaner Australian version speaks English instead of CHINESE.

        The only other difference I believe is the suction power. V1 has 1,800pa and V2 has 2,000pa

        Edit: Also 2nd gen has 0.5L dust capacity and the 1st gen has 0.42L

    Really awesome vacuum if you have got it. The Mi Home Alexa skill now supports Australia so you can get at least ability to turn off and on the vacuum via it now,
