Best Laptop under $1100 from JB Hi-Fi

I have to replace a faulty laptop with my JB Hi-Fi warranty credit, otherwise I'd buy elsewhere. I liked reading through the "Poll: Best Laptops and Ultrabooks under $1000 in 2018", but the top specific model laptops mentioned JB Hi-Fi doesn't seem to sell!

I'm naive when it comes to computers and actual specs, I apologise!

I work from home so my laptop is usually being used or at least on about 9 hours + a day. Just Word and basic internet really, though I need a lot of tabs open so some laptops I've had in the past don't do super well with that. I need good storage for photos, 8,000 plus jpeg files and growing. I don't do gaming, but do watch videos and movies. Portability / size is not a huge issue. Battery life I would like something decent but not super important. I need a good keyboard and an audio jack. Don't need touchscreen.

The last three laptops I've had (Lenovo and two HP, all around the $500 - $750 mark) have all died within 3 years…

    macbook

    • I prefer Windows.

      • Go with Surface pro… I'm using it from more than a YEAR, it is really doing well. I got IT ( pro 4, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD) from Kogan for A$1060 and then 10%TRS. I'm not sure you will get for such low price even after 1 year in jb hi-fi.

Err… MacBooks are much dearer and much slower in performance.

  • Why does it have to be from JB hi-Fi?

      • Ahh, missed that when I skim read this post.
I should probably read it properly before asking questions, lol.

Can you ask for a refund instead ? Or buy something else from JB?

All their laptops are shit. Usually no SSD, hardly any RAM, and just genuinely crap home use machines.

    • I would prefer a refund! However it's through their insurance and extended warranty credit so unfortunately not an option. There's nothing else I need from JB and nothing I think I could buy and sell without losing money and time.

If it is faulty you are entitled to a refund. You need to be more assertful.

        • insurance and extended warranty

This covers more than just faults or defects.

  • I know slightly more expensive then you asked but I got my Surface Pro 2017 for $1200, (had a bit of a deal on but you could probably talk them down to that price) and I really like it, screen size isn't too bad, but personally I like it as a portable machine. If you want something with more grunt and size though, it might not be the best.

  • If you have to buy from them, have a look at:

Slightly $$ but you can always them ask for a deal. The laptop should be fine to do everything you have mentioned
