I remember when Harvey Norman used to have a PC setup where you could play DOOM 3. That game scared me.

    • +4

I still can't play it. The new Doom though, that's alright. It's more action than horror.

      • I found the new one hilarious. Running around and punching everything.

        • +1

I think you mean ripping things in half :D

        • +1

nothing beats that crude fear from old titles.

  • +2

Some of best games of all time. Personal favourites being Quake and Return to Castle Wolfenstein

      RtCW was so so good.
Also loved Enemy Territory. To this day, still the best online shooter ever.

I actually played it only about 5 years ago, i didn't care that the graphics were dated, i was amazed at how well made the game was

        • I played it about 4 months ago. Fairly big servers in Asia, but my pings were bad. Most of the other servers have loads of bots.

        • @beatsntoons: people play it online still huh?

        • @bailbondsh:

Yeah there were a few. I might reinstall it and give it another go shortly.

        • @beatsntoons: I was playing Quake 1 online till 2008 so there's that lol. People still play it i here from time to time, duals, and 4 vs 4

ET was so awesome, played with TOG clan and would still play it again. I know the maps oh so well still!

        • +1

Yeah great game, reminiscent of Team Fortress. Strafe jumping made you feel like a god on pubs. Not sure how many hours I put into it as it wasn't tracked back then, but I got into TF2 afterwards and put way too many into that. Both free games (when I played them) - that ran fine on older hardware. Absolute bargains on a per hour basis.

          I need a medic!

Hell yes. It was still going as of a year or two ago… And it was farking free.

      • I miss RtCW. <LoA> checking in.

Dishonored is amazing, I got it for the same price a long time ago and while I finished it quick I loved it.

Hexen 2 , brings back good memories

    • +1

out of all those you pick Hexen 2, well each to their own, I only ever played Hexen one…

      • +1

Hexen 2 was one of the first fps i played back in 98. Brought one of those classic windows magazines with CDs containing demos. played the demo over and over, music stuck at the back of my head

Nice find, alas I already have all of them.

I bet no one here remembers the Requiem mod for Quake 1. Those were the days.

    • I've probably played it, me and my mates had all sorts of Quake mods back when it was popular. Cujo mod comes to mind lol.

      • Cujo mod for quake? Maybe I played that once yonks ago too. If a dog bites you then you continue to lose health until you grab a medipack?

        • Nah Cujo was like a dog pal that attacked enemies for you lol. I also remember mods where you could be the enemies themselves. Good times :)

      • I loved the Predator mod for the original Quake, with the sounds and all

    • Was requiem mod the multiplayer bots?

      • Yeah, that was possible. It was a mod for a while on one of Netspace's servers. Lotsa fun freezing opponents then gunning them down.

    • +2

Not sure about Requiem, but I played plenty of Team Fortress mod at LAN parties. Carting CRTs and beige boxes around to friends houses - good times.

QUAKE RALLY MOD WAS THE BEST!!

  • +4

Dishonored is a steal @ that price

      But no +vote… ?

  • Well looks like Quake 2 is broken…

Anybody want to play some q2dm1?

    • Sign me up! Couldn’t control the megahealth room for shit though

How does the licensing work with these?
Is it tied to the machine?
I don't have to be logged in to play these damned things do i?

    No answers, just negs.
Is this some kind of secret society, where gamers get together and defile each others pets or something?

    • +2

Who knows. Seems like a harmless, albeit lazy, question.

You own for life. Digital download & licensing. Do a quick google.

      • Guilty as charged.

        Thank you, and God bless.

    • I got you AC click here

      • Thank you @adhin, and God bless.

  • School memories Q2 lan.

Dishonored? At that price? Buying it will added to hundreds in my queue to play. Must resist bargain urge!

  • +1

And interestingly enough, if you check Green Man Gaming,

    Dishonored - $2.50
    Prey - $15.00
    Fallout 4 - $15.00

Basically Steam is offering a discount of 0.02-0.03 USD on each game.

  • Not all of these older games are sold on GoG, which is where I prefer to purchase any pre-Windows 7 games. There are more likely to fix compatibility uissues with newer Operating Systems.

  • does anybody know how to make these games work for mac?

  • Can the vanilla doom 3 be modded for VR?

  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein is an awesome game and a true classic of the genre, I highly recomend. Just make sure you run the widescreen mod that lets you play in 1080p, theres also some good HD texture packs available to improve the visulas a bit too and also some that change gameplay and make it more challenging.

  • Oh crap, it's ended already.

Oh well, probably saved me from the abyss.
