Is there an app on my iPhone for this?

    Re-ject or Pro-ject, your choice.

    • or E-ject

  • How does this compare to a $50 used Sony player you can get on eBay?

    • +9

You may as well ask how it compares to a potato.

      • +1

How does it compare to a potato?

        • +2

Not as good for roasting or mashing, but both can be fried.

    • +7

Not sure if this is a serious question but this would be streets ahead of a $50 Sony TT in many ways including speed regulation, vibration isolation, overall clarity plus much more. Comparing this to an 'affordable' used, vintage 70's belt-drive TT from eBay for around the $200-300 mark (eg. Pioneer, Sansui etc.) with a new belt & cart/stylus (approx. $100 extra) and proper setup & alignment would be far more difficult… but of course anything audio related is very subjective so yeah… potayto/potarto :)

      • Buying a vintage table is a bit overrated. Maybe you get a decent Thorens or something, or maybe it's bent off axis from that time twenty three years ago when Uncle Jono got off chops to Sabbath. Unless you are paying big bucks for a Clearaudio Concept from a dealer, it's kind of roulette.

Of course, if you just want something cheap to play some Vinnies records then yeah.

        • +1

Yeah, I've hit the jackpot more times than I'd like to admit. I haven't collected any new 'vintage' Hifi gear for a good 2-3 years now but my two best buys within the last 5 years include a Thorens TD124ii in an original 60s Teak plinth, matching Teak cover loaded with an SME 3009ii Arm & (I think) Shure or Ortofon Cart and a Michell Transcriptor Hydraulic Reference with SME Arm and some (sorry, I can't remember) crazy good Cart… both in full working order and only $50 each! The Thorens is absolutely dreamy both in sound and condition but the Michell looks like it's been left out and used as a bird feeder so needs a full resto… but does work OK-ish.

I've bought & restored many $50-$200 Pioneer, Sansui & similar 70s era TTs for friends & family and after a bit of basic work they've all sounded very very good indeed. Maybe I've just been lucky. Such a rewarding hobby though, highly recommended.

    • More to the point, how does it compare to https://highend-electronics.com/products/cantano-w-t-tuntabl…

  • I never would have picked vinyl records making a comeback. My money was on the copper tub washing machine with hand wringer.

    • +4

Vinyl making a comeback is ten years ago.

Don't want to blow your mind, but tapes are back.

      • I don't think does tapes are mind blowing so much as other other forms of blowing.

      • +1

Cassettes are a pure nostalgia fetish. At least there was some justification for preferring new vinyl to a cd, because they can't flap up the compression on vinyl the way they can with a cd master. That said, a proper, uncompressed cd master will absolutely destroy any turntable in existence.

This is a killer price. They go for $1600 with no cart normally. This is barely more than a debut with a red cart.

    • +1

It is an excellent price - note however that a couple of other places (like Len Wallis and others) are also advertising this at a reduced price ($999) so presumably there is some wider sale going on for this particular turntable.

      • Yeah, I spoke with a local dealer when they were around $1300 for EOFY. He said the model was being replaced with a different tonearm and reintroduced at a higher price point. That said, this price is simply too good to pass up with the cart included, ordered one in walnut.

      • -1

Len Wallis $999 price doesn’t include a cartridge. Not sure about others, but reckon this deal is good as anyone would be offering. >50% off RRP is pretty nuts.

  • +1

Great price and really nice turntable. I much prefer the look of the classic over the modern (plain) Pro-Ject offerings.

They’ve got the walnut finish for the same price too, which is what I’d go for if I could justify another. Four is enough I think.

OP should have cancelled and re-posted at the new price.

$999 is still the best deal around on this product so even with the price bump it doesn't deserve a neg IMO. Others for the same price either don't have a cartridge or have a lesser one.

      • Prior to my report and subsequent intervention by mod, OP edited the title to $999 instead of expiring the deal. If you didn't check the revision you would have thought the 18 + votes and the good comments were for the price of $999.

These comments were made in relation to the price of $849.

        Great price
        This is a killer price
        It is an excellent price
This is barely more than a debut with a red cart

If you saw the previous sneaky revision, you will be misled into thinking that $999 is a great, excellent, killer price that is barely more than a debut with a red cart. My neg is for the misleading revision and the behaviour of OP.

        • +1

I understand that, which is why I said what they should have done (to avoid being misleading).

I'm not whether OP was being intentionally sneaky or just didn't think the change through. I suspect the later so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I am new to this website, this is my second post. Please be aware that we are all human and make mistakes, I'm pretty sure that there is even a learner plate on my posts!!
The price went up for a few minutes, then I figured out how to end the post. Please let me know if you have any feedback before giving us a negative IOS.

          @Melbourne Hi Fi: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/132664

This probably should be in the FAQ.

Edit: Oops, that post is hiding in the Power User forum so you cannot see it. Sorry. Here is the relevant part.

Any significant change to price, e.g. from $48 to $60 (20%) means it is expired. People are voting that they believe it's a bargain for $48 not $60, if that makes sense.

It's not an exact science but if the price change went from $48 to $49 (2%) then it's probably OK to change the price. In any case, it's best to write the price changes in the description for transparency.

      • at which price?

        • What price are you asking about?

        • @Melbourne Hi Fi:

Whatever price you'll be selling them for.

        • @watts: This will depend on if we can still get more at the same price and if the suppliers have any left. We should know by tomorrow, if you would like to drop us an email or call we can let you know when we know

        • @Melbourne Hi Fi:

          Fair enough.

Thanks, but I'm certainly not buying myself. Just asking for for the benefit of others.

        • @watts: No worries
