Onkyo Ht S7805 or Klipsch Quintet with Denon Receiver

Hi
I need a help yo choose between onkyo hts 7805
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/onkyo/onkyo-atmos-5-1-2-home-theat…

Or

Klipsch quintet with denon

https://www.harveynorman.com.au/klipsch-5-speaker-sound-syst…

Both has same price (getting klipsch for $1500 as well).

My question is should i go for latest codecs like dolby atoms and dts x(onkyo)
Or better quality speakers with just 5.1 surround (klipsch)

I heard them in store but didn't feel much difference just klipsch has bit stronger bass.

If you can give me the advice on this that would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hey Hary,
Good budget to get something that sounds pretty nice.

You're on the right track and an amp gives you more options than say this sound bar.

If it was me - I'd pickup the Yamaha Rxv583 for $650 and then 2nd hand speakers gumtree or Ebay. This will get you bigger sound experience. I use bookshelves as rear height atmos speakers. Typically used floorstanders go cheap ($100) these days as everyone wants to keep the wife happy. I run 4… ;-)

  • I would buy receiver and speakers separately, just because I like to tailor it. Out of these two packages, Onkyo makes good receivers, I'm looking at Onkyo for my next one, but the klipsch speakers look way better and I'm a sucker for design. If they sounded almost the same to you, and the features won't make a difference to you, it usually comes down to what you want to be looking at.

  • Neither.
Get a Yamaha one, much higher quality, all the features, much easier support.

Spend $500-$900 on the head unit, and $200-$500 on the subwoofer, and $300-$600 on the surround speakers.
Total from $900 - $2,000… depending on the quality/volume you prefer.

  • I'd get the onkyo. catch had a heap of them closer to the start of the year.

    • i think it was the 9800 though. have a look for that one, should be able to get it for $1500.

  • I have that same Onkyo model, with this receiver you will need to play right movie and the right room to really hear the difference (preferable flat ceiling so the sound bounce properly), once you have that, calibrate it and try and play Fate of the furious to test DTS-X and Transformers or Ready Player One for Atmos..if they don't blow you away then it's probably not the receiver for you.

I think once you hear a proper Atmos setup, you won't wanna go back to standard 5.1. My recommendation out of the 2 options is to get Onkyo.
