The Onion Kingdom is in danger and only the finest cooking can save it! In Overcooked players must journey through a variety of cruel and unusual kitchens on their quest to become master chefs capable of conquering an ancient edible evil which plagues the land. Play solo or engage in classic, chaotic couch co-op for up to four players in both co-operative and competitive challenge modes. You’ll have to cook a range of different dishes and work together in order to become the most effective and ultimate team! Key Features: A Culinary Quest - The Onion Kingdom is a rich world full of cruel and unusual kitchens for you to conquer. Take part in an epic journey and tackle an increasingly challenging and bizarre gauntlet of kitchens which will push your skills of co-operation and co-ordination to the very limits. Each level brings a new challenge for you and your team to overcome, whether it's sliding around on a pirate ship, moving between speeding trucks, cooking on an ice floe or serving food in the bowels of a fiery underworld, each level will test the mettle of even the bravest chefs. Simple Controls/Deep Challenge – Overcooked is so easy to pick up that anyone can join in the fun, but finding a team who can communicate and co-ordinate their actions when the pizza hits the fan, that's when only a well-oiled team of super-chefs will come out on top! Different Ways to Play - Whether indulging in deep fried local co-op or sautéed single player, as you play through the game you'll unlock new levels, new chef characters and even competitive challenge levels which allow teams of two to engage in hard boiled head-to-head in the kitchen. However you want to play, if you think you can stand the heat, then get ready to enter the kitchen!

I'd say it's on sale for two reasons…

1: they removed it from GamePass so want you to buy it at a reduced price

2: Overcooked 2 released today (but that sale price has been going for the past week so was more so in prep for today)

    • What, they removed it from gamepass? Weak.

      • Was mentioned in the first comment on the GamePass monthly update list.

        The following games were removed:
        DiRT Rally
        LIMBO
        Overcooked
        Pharaonic
        So Many Me
        Ultratron

  • It may be a silly question, I don't know. But can 2 players play on a same console using two separate controllers with this game or you will need two separate consoles to play multiplayer?

    • +3

      Yes.

    • +5

Yup. Coop works fine (two separate controllers on the same console) and is great in this game. I actually wouldn't play it WITHOUT someone else.

      • Thank you 2SeekU. I am looking to play with my son.

Also would you go for the Overcooked 2 or stay with this version?

        • +3

I saw the Overcooked 2 trailer and it looks very similar to Overcooked so I suggest trying the first to see if you like it.

WARNING: This game can generate some stress, yelling and frustration. :)

        • @Stix: Thanks Stix

        • If you're just playing with your son locally, then I'd say go with Overcooked 1, and then grab Overcooked 2 later when it's on sale. Overcooked 2 has online multiplayer, but if you're playing locally, that's probably unimportant (I'd say the game is best played in the same room anyway).

Although, if you only want to buy one version, then potentially go for Overcooked 2, as it also has more recipes, and allows you to throw ingredients (which you can't do in the first game). Basically, Overcooked 2 should be a bigger and better version of the game.

Well worth getting 1 and playing it first though!

recommend as well to visit co-optimus.com, search the games by applying the filter "couch co-op" to get list of games that can be played in one console

        • @Stix: Yes, my son is easily distracted and ends up watching what I'm doing which results in me yelling at him to keep chopping. Dad of the year right?

Also to add as FYI - you can play 2 players on 1 controller or 4 players on 2. Just to make it even more stressful.

    • You can even play on same console using 1 controller, which is really fun and adds to the challenge. (2 controller allows plating 4 players!)

  • I am waiting for the switch version to go on sale.

  • +1

Looks like a good gam for the kids to play on the Xbox one, thanks OP

  • So this is cross-buy, right?

    • Anyone?

If it's cross-buy I'll get it on xbox. I'm not an xbox gamer, it's my least used gaming console. But I think xbox+pc would be the easiest way to get my non gaming partner into it (the xbox is the only console connected to the tv, and she has a laptop). Otherwise I'll go ps4/switch.

  • if you have 3-4 players i recommend buying this game, crazy fun

  • overcooked 2! release in ~27 hrs from now… cant wait

    • It's already out for the switch (I could open it FWIW)

    • really? I promised missus to play this after work today :))

    • Hey just FYI it has dropped on PS4. I'm currently downloading.

      • Is the first one any cheaper on the PS4, or you talking about the 2nd one being available?

  • One of the best games ever! We got it for the PS4.

  • +1

    Stressful game

  • When playing this game I wonder what the neighbours must think due to the amount of abuse and swearing coming out of the mouths of me and my wife.

  • Apart from the content, anything else in the gourmet that's worth it?

  • +1

Overcooked is the defining couch-coop game of this console generation by a country mile. So excited for the sequel. If you haven't done the first one and you have people at home to play with, don't even hesitate. It might spark the occasional argument but it's probably the most fun I've had with a PS4 game.

  • +1

    Got the gourmet edition

I didn't yet realise they pulled it from game pass!

  • hard/fun game where you can make/lose friends

  • Gourmet or Normal version?

    • Gourmet includes new levels and characters/avatars by bundling in the "The Lost Morsel" DLC

The Overcooked Lost Morsel content pack continues the chefs’ crazy culinary adventure through six new campaign levels, featuring challenging new kitchens set in an exotic jungle world, a new vehicle to navigate the world map in and six new chef characters to unlock! Key Features: Six new campaign levels! Six new chefs to unlock! New world map, accessible via the new DLC option New helicopter vehicle to navigate around the world map New visual theme in-game, “Jungle”

It's also on sale standalone, from AU$5.95 to AU$1.96, but cheaper in the bundle, I guess worth it if you end up finishing all levels in standalone.
