I've looked at Kennards pricing a few times now and found them consistently to be more expensive than other local hire places. 20% off still wouldn't bring them cheaper I don't think for most things.
I worked in the industry many years ago, and back then pretty much no-one paid the list price. Everything could be negotiated down, and this was factored into the pricing. The only people who paid full price was the average joe off the street picking up a single piece of equipment for a day or two.
If you're booking for multiple days, or multiple pieces of equipment, push for a discount. If you're a business, demand a discount. These businesses would much rather have the equipment out there earning income, than sitting there doing nothing, and their costs after purchasing equipment is quite low (every piece of returned equipment needs a quick lube, check over and clean, depending on the equipment, it's only 5 minutes work).

It depends on if they think they're going to get your business already or not. If you name drop some competitors you might have more luck.
I have to say, just looking at their rates, seem crazy high…
1 tonne ute is $110 for 4 hours… I could get it for $70 from europcar for 24 hours or even Bunnings…
