EOP to a 2nd house?

Hey guys, I’ve just built another steel framed house on my property via an Owner Builders Licence, and just wondering the best way to get internet over to it? It’s on the same land as the original, about 20 meters away and connected to power with a cable running underground with a sub meter attached to the main house. I was thinking about about Ethernet over power, but I’ve heard some bad reviews of them…? Would a wifi gun or wifi extender be better?

Thanks in advanced Guys! :)

why didn't you add an ethernet cable when running the power cable?

  • Ethernet cable with a phone line.

  • Ethernet. You may need a new trench as the electromagnetic interference from the power cord over 20m may have a material impact. Otherwise if a new trench isn't feasible, and you don't want to chance it with Ethernet because of the EMI, then you can use fibre optics with a media converter on both ends.

Of course the cheapest option is to just chance it and push some cat6 up the conduit and hope for the best. And if it sucks, then you can try something more elaborate.

  • Else bridge it with 2x Ubiquiti Loco M2s or M5s or ACs https://www.ubnt.com/airmax/nanostationm/, you can fire them through glass or have them outside, up to you. I've used loco M5s through glass windows between two apartments and they were fine.

  • pull cat7

  • I was born and raised in Russia, where we had Cat5E running on electricity poles with 100MB switches every 130 meters. I came back last year to find out that the net is still up and running.

    Otherwise, just use Wifi.
