Hi, does anyone know the T&Cs of when the free flight is supposed to be used by?

I understand it’s on your anniversary, however, it’s not entirely clear on the date? My anniversary month is May on my card, however, I went to redeem my free flight in my first/current year on 20 June 2018; and this was PRIOR to my next years annual fee $375 was billed/charged to my account. I had assumed when I made the flight booking it was for my free flight in the first year. Now that my annual fee has been billed and paid, I had assumed I would have another free flight for this membership year. But apparently this is not the case.

I called up Amex to follow up and was advised Virgin advised Amex my flight was redeemed on 27 June; and my anniversary was on 25 June, therefore I have lost my first free flight. I sent Amex my flight itinerary issued by Virgin which clearly shows it was ticketed on 20 June; and still waiting for a follow up response from Amex.

Any insights is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
