Mobile Internet Speed Tests in Brisbane

Hi

I was contemplating on moving from Telstra mobile data plan to Kogan or Amaysim.

I am based in an inner Brisbane suburb and run a few internet speed tests using an Android app (Speedtest by Ookla).

For my 3 SIM cards, I found (Download and Upload speeds in Mbps):

  • Telstra: 345 and 55
  • Woolworths: 120 and 54
  • Vodafone: 42 and 15
  • TPG (wifi): 4 and 0.6

I was wondering where in this list Kogan and Amaysim would fall as I have had no recent experience with it.

KOGAN uses the Vodafone 4G Network
amaysim uses the Optus 4G Network (Woolworths does as well).

Actually the newer/current Woolworths offering uses Telstra Wholesale

      • That might explain the same upload speeds for WW and Telstra; download limit has probably been capped at about 120 Mbps

  • do you need 345mbps ?

    • It is helpful when downloading >1GB movies, which only take 20-30 minutes to download. Other than that, I am happy with Vodafone (and now Kogan based on comments here) for everyday apps.

I am paying $49 per month for 20 GB, which not bad either, but with new Kogan (buy one get 1 free) deal it's time to move.

    • Should of included latency.

Just did a test on Kogan, inner city Brisbane. Same app (Speedtest by Ookla)
    22.6 down, 9.72 up

      I did another, same deal.

      38.4 down, 17.4 up

      • Confirms the above comment that Kogan and Vodafone are the same!

        • wouldn't TPG fall into the same category

        • @hawkeye: I hail from a shared house withots of single people, so this may be a factor on TPG. It is a wifi too; that's another difference.

    345 is impressive

    • It shows as LTE and even the ~10sec Speedtest triggers my phone's "mobile data" warning. I think it costs about 400 MB of data to run the test!
