Noisy tenants, have written letter, complained to real estate agent, called the police once - options?

Due to personal circumstances, moving is not an option - how would I escalate this?

    • Loud music

Loud enough to go through the floor (I live on floor above)

Any time of the day, but today at 1:30AM. The music goes on for a minimum of 2-3 hours per session.

Happens at least once on a weekly basis, time differs.

When I spoke with the tenant, they were willing to turn it down, this happened at least three times from 8 months prior. They are aware this is an issue but the loud noise continues regardless. I have also been respectful and let them turn it down while I was at their door then gone back upstairs to let them know that, that specific volume was acceptable as they didn't know what was and what wasn't too loud. Again, they are aware the maximum volume the music should be so as to not disturb others.

Real estate agent so far has sent a letter and/or spoken with them. I have called them regarding this issue twice already.

Called the police first time to complain - they came to their door and told them to stop. I just called but told them the police to call the door knock off as they just happened to stop the music then.

        what does this mean?

        • @John Kimble:
Ah ok, they can still come and question them, also noise pollution can be any time, not limited to night time

I used to have air bnb next door which people are coming from everywhere, different people every night and they love partying, after 2 months 3 calls the owner sold the unit, it become peaceful

        • Can someone go, as far as…..

    • You just missed a who and a when question

  • Keep complaining to RE and calling the police if it's after midnight.

  • i know if they continue to make noise, police can issue a fine if it is still continue they will get backlist if they are a renter.

  • Is noise during the day something you can complain about? I would have thought as long as it's within coulncil by-laws requirements it's ok

    • You can still complain, whether they will act on it is a different story

I know what's it like to live with noisy loud music neighbours. Especially trying to sleep through the bass noises.

Keep a log of all noise issues, start time, end times, type of noise
Keep complaining to RE and Strata.
    Contact council
    Contact police - 131 444 - after 10pm Sun-Thurs, after 12am Fri-Sat - keep a log

The only real way for peace is when they move away. It's like bliss when that happens until another noisy neighbour pops up. Luckily at least you know which neighbour. I'm still trying to figure which neighbour is blasting music at night in a neighbouring block of units.

Just keep calling the police, even if it is several times a day. If they start the music up right after they leave then ring again. Get other people in the building to call up and complain as well.

    • One, the police service is not your private security, two, do that enough and you become the boy who cried wolf, and if there is a real altercation, those sick and tired of your bs police will dawdle to your door. No matter how many calls to the cops, no ones getting arrested for noise, it will go to court.

You live on the floor above - put some high heels on and stomp around when they’re sleeping.

Play loud music at 7am when they'll be sleeping off the previous night's party

Face the speaker downwards for maximum effect.

  • Play Spice Girls at loud volume until they get the point.

  • Keep contacting their real estate agent. Get body corporate involved to also contact the agent/landlord. And keep calling the police. This is a game where persistence pays off. It took our building about 8-12 months to get rid of a party tenant.

I have just copied and pasted this from a previous thread about the same matter. Here is how we solved it.

Contacted the police a few times. Make sure you ask them for a incident number each time for proof. Police would come out sometimes and tell them to keep it down. They would turn it down but as soon as the police left turn it up again. So police are no help in these matters but you might need the incident numbers to get a council environmental officer to investigate. I than brought a property report from landgate I think for $30 for their property to see who the owner was and if it was a rental. It turned out to be a rental but when I tracked down the owner he said he couldn't do anything. Which is wrong you can be kicked out for being a noisy tenant. So he was no help. Than I called up all rental property businesses around us to find which one he was using but had no luck there. Then contacted a council environmental officer and made a noise complaint. I needed 3 police incident report numbers and a hand written complaint with a noise diary over two weeks. After that the environmental officer came out and put sound recording device in my house for 3 days to see if their noise was too loud by their guidelines. After he analysed the data he agreed it was too loud and sent a letter to the owner saying if he didn't sought out the tenants he would be liable and they would take him to court.
After this happened the house was quiet for two weeks then they moved out. The owner called me up and gave me his number and said if any other tenants that moved in were being noisy contact him straight away and he would evict them.

    Good luck

Short version: Eviromental officer is what you need.

    • Thanks mate.
