Fixie Bike 2018

Hey guys,

I'm really new with this, my max budget is about $350 and I'd like a fixie bike style.

I don't know which way to go between those, or maybe something else?

Studd brand

But any other brand, other stores, I'm open to anything

thanks

Not sure on those brands, another option in that price bracket is Reid Cycles, can go for a test ride if there is one near you.

I don't know the answer to your question.

However, this might be relevant to you - $8 off No Minimum Spend @ Melbourne Beard Oil e.g. Scented Beard Oil 10ml $0.40 + $2 Shipping (OOS)

Are you sure you mean fixie? Where the pedals are always spinning, you can't coast and pedalling backwards will make the bike go backwards.

Or do you mean single speed, where there aren't any other gears to change to, but you can stop pedalling and coast?

A fixie isn't really for a newbie rider, a single speed bike will look almost the same, but be easier to ride.

    (I own a fixie)

    • Do you use the brakes more often to stop or simply lock your legs?

      • Combo, I'm not real good at fixie skids. Legs for slow braking, brakes for quick. I ride a lot more conservatively allowing a lot more slowing time on the fixie than a regular bike.

      • Using your legs without locking the wheel would be a bit like regen braking. I wonder if it would convert the energy back into fat.

  • Second hand Fuji Feather. It's default single speed, but flip-flop hub so you can convert to fixie.

    • flip flops traditionally have different sized gears - not different drive mechanisms. For example, 28 one side, 26 the other.

  • Is it possible to have a single speed bike with the brakes where you pedal backwards like the old BMX bikes?

    • Yes. Known as a coaster brake or back pedal brake. I have a couple of cheap cruiser bikes that have them.
