I got really excited when I read Merlin and $19.96 in the title, as I worked in the garage door industry for a while and am familiar with the general pricing..

But, of course.. It was a sham :(

I've got a Merlin Tilt Master MT100EVO, with an E138m wall mounted remote and two E950M remotes, and I was hoping to get a couple more E950M remotes and two Sunvisor remotes (I presume the C940 or C943).

Was also considering picking up a wireless entry keypad depending on the price, and that is when the truth was revealed..

Considering the cheapest official Merlin remote you are selling is $29.90, and everything listed as Merlin under that price is either just a battery, or a generic / off brand remote, I think it's fair to presume you are being deliberately deceitful.

I can tell you right now, this is not the place for dodgy tactics like that if you're trying to build a good reputation.

Hi mate, I think there might have been some confusion about what we are offering. The Auto Opener remote controls are not the genuine units, as explained in the description. I've also deliberately linked the deal through to a specific part of our eBay store page where you only see these remote controls.

As for the general pricing of a genuine remote control (which can exceed $70-80 over the counter) and your experience with the RRP's of Merlin product, I'm surprised you found the pricing to not be up to standard. For example, the below Merlin RRP in comparison to what we sell them for. Apologies for the wall of text.

      Merlin Pricing Comparison & Links
      Merlin @ $59 E138M Wall Button, National @ $36.20
      Merlin @ $89 E840M Keypad, National @ $78
      Merlin @ $55 E940M, National @ $47.50
      Merlin @ $59 E943M Visor Remote, National @ $48
      Merlin @ $59 E945M Keyring Remote, National @ $29.90
      Merlin @ $59 E950M, National @ $37.50

Merlin @ $N/A for the CM128, however, we sell it for $34
      Merlin @ $89 C840 Wireless Keypad, National @ $69
      Merlin @ $39 C940 Visor Remote, National @ $28.90
      Merlin @ $39 C943 Visor Remote, National @ $29.95
      Merlin @ $49 C945 Keyring Remote, National @ $29.90

However, yes, you are absolutely correct - We also sell batteries for some remotes that we offer on the same listings as the remote controls. As you can see, however - The pricing is still better than an over the counter price, as well as below Merlin's RRP :)

I'd also like to highlight that the Genuine Merlin C945 remote control comes with a 1 year warranty for $29.90, whilst the Active Series C945 comes with a 2 Year Warranty for $19.96 delivered. Not a bad deal, no matter how you look at it!

      • Title tweaked to avoid misconception.

Do you stock the Merlin E960M Remote as replacement for the E945M? Might be less prone to activating in my pocket.

        • +1

Hi Steptoe, thanks mate. We don't stock that (however, we are looking at getting it in).

Another option might be the aforementioned E950M remote control - It has a sliding cover that goes over the buttons. Might help prevent the accidental activations :) You can find that one here

        • @GrecDeFreckle:
Had a look at that one and it seemed pretty fragile.

Can I wire in an ATA FH-CRX Receiver into the 650EVO motor. I like the waterproof ATA 2 button remote much better.

        • +1

          @Steptoe:

You certainly can - I've also got a wiring diagram for the receiver and that unit in particular. When you order the unit just pop in a message for the wiring diagram and the team will shoot one off for you.

        • @GrecDeFreckle:

According to the manual there’s no 12V on the 650EVO terminal strip. Do I have to hack it? The 850EVO has a 12V out for accessories.

        • @Steptoe: You would have to remove the light cover - Underneath theres direct access to the circuit board, which you can wire accessories into.

      • You're correct about the description going into more detail; it is the title which is deceiving.

It doesn't mention the brand as being Active Series, or even words like "generic" or "compatible".

I feel this was done deliberately to get people's attention, and that's not the way to go about things; I personally wouldn't have clicked the link if I knew they weren't genuine remotes.

As for your pricing on the genuine products, I never said anything about it not being up to standard.

I absolutely agree that your prices are better than what one would find from most dealers, and normally that would be enough to tempt me, but unfortunately in this case I feel trust has already been broken.

Hopefully you'll take note for your next post, as I'm sure people would still be happy with your pricing.

        • Hi McMoots, all feedback is welcome! We're still new to OzBargain (Heck, this is our second post) so forgive the training wheels :)

The title wasn't done deliberately to deceive anyone, however, it appears that it's since been fixed up by a moderator (with the addition of the wording 'to suit'). Lesson learnt!

If you need anything from us McMoot, feel free to get in contact with us in the future and I'd be happy to assuage any concerns you might have in the future - Or anyone elses, for that matter.

Have bought from National Garages before.
    Would bang again.

  • Hi mate, I moved into a new house last year and the remotes for the electric garage doors are starting to fail. Just wondering if you can point me to the correct replacement remote to buy and would there be instructions to teach me how to synchronize the new remote with the garage door?

Hi Fmarxis, looks like a BHT4 remote control. We've got the Auto Openers AOHT4 for $19.96, or the genuine article for $30.70

Both will use these set of instructions

      • Thanks, do you know how many remotes can be added to the control list in general?

        • Looks like the motor has a limit of 64 remotes, but it could be less depending on your specific model. That having been said, I daresay it's more than your average household would be using :)

  • Is there an aftermarket substitute for the e960m? I have the evo655 and want a spare that will rarely be used.

      Compatible Remotes: E940M, E943M, E945M, E840M, E128M, E138M

      Some of those are listed

Hi mate, unfortunately, there are no 'aftermarket' remote controls available for the Merlin Security+ 2.0 series. The only remote we offer are the genuine units - Which Steptoe has posted a list of :)

  • Do you sell anything for Stoddart Garage doors?

    • Unfortunately, there's not a lot we can do for this one. The Stoddart motors look like an imported unit from China that has been rebranded, although interestingly it appears they manufacture their own doors? This means that we won't be able to identify the encryption or frequency that the remote works on.

You could wire in a receiver and remote kit - This would allow you to use a different series of remote controls on the motor without affecting the original remotes at all. The receiver(https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291815873970) would be $43.96 delivered and the remotes would be $19.96 delivered. 2-core speaker wire is suitable to wire this into your Stoddart motor, which you can get from Jaycar electronics or Middys for next to nothing.
