What 65" TV Should I Get?

Hey Guys,

I need advice on what TV to get.

I recently bought a Changhong 65" 4K TV because it was cheap, and i knew it wasn't going to be the best screen, but i'm really unhappy with the picture on it. It's super grainy, and you can see the backlights very clearly on darker images.

So I'm planning on selling it on Facebook or something, just to get rid of it, and buying a proper one.

Now that i've seen the potential of 65" 4K goodness, i don't want to downgrade.

What sub $2,000 65" 4K TV should i get? I was at the good guys, and they had the previous gen Sony UHD Smart TV on clearence for $1,999 - Not sure if it's a good deal or not. Or JB has a LG one on special currently for the same price.

Thanks

Reallly depends on the model number.

    • Reallly depends on the model number.

Definitely. OP, you really need to look into model number, and maybe check reviews etc.
Sony seems to bring out about 4 different 65" 4k Televisions at the same time. Each with different model number and vastly different specs.

      • I think it's a KD65X7500D but i'd havce to check!

        • That is a 2016 Model as it has the "D" prefix at the end.

          • E = 2017
          • F = 2018

          Cheers

    • The only previous gen Sony on their site is KD65X7500D so it may be that one, I'd have to go have a look to check. Would that be worth it though? They said i may be able to get it cheaper

I got Sony android tv recently . It was 2017 model I think. Probably 55" not 65.
I bought it at an amazing price, from sony website, with eb games code entered for extra discount.
I really love my full android tv due to the multitude of options ie. Can install so many apps (but not all android apps on phone, or available on the google play android tv store) .
I have amazon prime, expressVPN (to allow me access to US netflix) , Stan, Netflix, 9Now and channel ten, and channel 7 apps also (watch live content, or watch many shows after the original showing) .
My other cheaper 4k hisense smart tv, only has Stan, Youtube, Netflix.
Its nice having an android tv, because you can have absolutely anything that other 'smart-tv' have, will be on android tv (plus more).
As far as I know, no other televisions besides android tv, can run expressVPN to allow for access to US netflix.
You can use a box connected to run android on any tv also .
Depending on what apps you want, definitely worth considering android tv, just for the extra choice in apps.

    • Thanks for your reply :) I've got an AndroidTV device currently, and they are pretty awesome!

      • You're welcome.
Be sure to have 4k capable android tv device also. ie. You're missing out to some extent, if connect a 1080p device, to a 4k Tv.
I found that not all HDMI inputs on 4k TV are equal also. Both my 4k Tv, have 2 optimal 4k inputs (with 60hz or something) then the other inputs are still 4k less hz or something.

    • Model # of your sony android TV please for comparison purposes

The biggest 65" you can get.

  • For the Sony 4k TV's, the 7000 series is the basic model, 8000 is mid range and 9000 series is the best. There is quite a difference in the quality of display between 7000 and 8000 series.

The new OLED maybe better but prices are still high. I have a 55 8000 series cant complain other than the internet connection wifi keeps falling off.

Go for 65 if room size allows.

    • Hmm it looked pretty good in the shop, i might go back and see what exactly what it was

  • It's safe to say you got Changhonged ! Check out Linden, it's very cheap but the pic is crisp & color's are accurate. You just need a TV box to make it smart.

    • Yes i did indeed, i knew it wouldn't be great, but not this bad. I'm a stickler for quality. My friends say it's fine, but the noise and backlights piss me off.

      • The content you watch also matters. If you were watching SD or 720p content the above mentioned TV wouldnt have any upscaling making it look terrible. Remember the demo you see in show rooms are high bitrate content most of the time unless they have FTA or Foxtel hooked up.

My advice is if the 7 series Sony is fine as a pricepoint , try taking any media file that you want to test at showroom to see if you are satisfied.

i have a Hisense N7 at home bought for about $1500 which i have no issues with. The Hisense P7 seems to be the replacement but doesn't look like that is under $2000 yet

  • Wait for KDX659000F to drop in price, very good TV & if you wait might get it for around $2700.

    • Today I saw Sony x85F $2700and X90f $3125 side by side and couldnt really tell the difference in terms of PQ for that extra $500 now.

Took the plunge to buy the Samsung NU8000 65inch from Bing lee.

Seems a good value under $2000 from ebay deal and its quite good for playing the game too from the review.

It will replace my 10year old LG LCD TV-hope I can see the improvement to it. 😂.
