Adaptor not included with Samsung desktop charger from Kogan

According to Kogan's direct import policy…
"Are international models different in any way?
International models are brand new, genuine products. You may notice minor differences when compared with models purchased locally, however, all international models are supplied with an Australian compliant generic charger and are suited for use in Australia. This is the main power supply for each product we sell. For convenience when travelling, we may also provide an international power supply - this should only be used when travelling outside Australia."

However, the desktop charger had a UK, Singapore plug. They did not supply a generic charger or adaptor.

They are defending themselves by saying on the product page "*To take advantage of the Fast Charge functionality, please note that this product is intended to be used with the Fast Charging AC adaptor and USB-C cable that are included with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8. These parts can also be purchased separately."

I have replied, well that's in the case of if I want to "To take advantage of the Fast Charge functionality". If I don't want to have fast charge functionality, then Kogan should supply a generic charger or adaptor. They further went on to say I could not return the item either.

Do I have a valid point? If they refuse to provide an adapter, could I actually take this to consumer affairs/accc? Almost want to do it to make a point, as customer service has not been very helpful or friendly.

Things like this used to really get me upset also.
But a since have gotten older I realised it's just not worth the hassle and headache.
Use the phone cable and move on with your life. Life is stressful enough without wasting time on stuff like this.

    • Yeah I agree. It was the attitude of the customer service guy "Irwin" that made me decide to push things further and spoil his happy day.

I imported something from a company in Hong Kong, and it didnt come with the stipulated adapter. Can you please help me?

I'm not sure how you want the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to help you?

      • So Kogan did pay the fine. So probably answerable to consumer affairs too. I would presume phone chargers etc are made to some sort of international standard as it would be expected that people bring their chargers with them when they travel overseas.

What does the product page say? Because if it's this one:

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-fast-charge-wireless-ch…

Under "In the box" it clearly says only:

    • Samsung Fast Charge Wireless Charging Stand

Aka no mention of any kind of adapter.

  • The product comes with a power adapter, so given their T&C under international model, an AU plug should have been provided. Kogan customer service has finally given in to provide a generic plug adapter. Can't believe it had to get to the point of mentioning consumer affairs to get what should have been provided anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if they change the wording now for their "international model" terms and conditions. With their share price dropping, you would think they would be doing everything to provide excellent customer service to keep customers happy, such as TM Lewin honoring the discount codes stacking a couple of years ago.

    • I still can't figure out what product this was and if it was supposed to come with an adapter at all. If they added an extra one when they had no obligation to provide anything, they wouldn't have an obligation to provide you with an AU plug either.

  • Its a desk top wireless charger and it comes with its own power adapter and cable in the box (looks similar to the one that comes with the Samsung phone). The adapter is a fast charge adapter, as the fast charge feature is coming from the adapter and not the wireless stand I guess. Its slightly larger, however it may be larger due to accommodating for the UK pins.

    • Gotcha. Yeah - I think their reasoning is that the Australian one I linked above doesn't actually come with an adapter or cable, just the wireless charging stand. So getting the bonus adapter in the international one is just that - an extra, and not something they feel like they need to add an AU adapter to.
