Was looking into Telstra network resellers when came across this offer from PennyTel.
Example plan : $15/month - 5GB Data
Compared with:
Aldi mobile: $15/month - 1.5GB; $25 - 4GB
Belong mobile: $10/month - 1GB; $25 - 5GB

Think Mynetfone took them over.
Compared with TPG (Vodafone network):
TPG: $10/month - 4GB; $15 - 10GB
I know TPG don't have a stellar reputation, but Pennytel weren't great either, from my experience.
And unless you are rural, all three mobile networks are almost identical.
And unless you are rural, all three mobile networks are almost identical.
That is most definitely not true. I have a work provided phone on Optus and a personal mobile on Telstra. There are noticeable differences in coverage even in the Melbourne CBD and surrounds.
And apart from coverage, network speed and available bandwidth is also a major factor. They are not all the same.
From memory, resellers of the telstra network have a capped data speed.
I agree. I’m in Sydney’s burbs on amaysim (Optus network). I get nowhere near the reception my wife has on her Telstra.
I can't notice the different between Optus and Woolworths mobile (Telstra) though.
Is it possible they throttle the coverage for 3rd party.
Depends where you are. Telstra has the most coverage but Vodafone and Optus get better service where I live.
I know TPG don't have a stellar reputation
Yes and they're still the same old TPG. Pennytel went belly up & the name was bought out by MyNetPhone, who have a decent rep.
And unless you are rural, all three mobile networks are almost identical.
in theoretical coverage maps maybe. In the real world, there's a huge difference in actual coverage and speed.
I'd personally stay away from them. They charged me $20 to open the account (as a deposit or something like that) and refused to refund it when I was closing it. At the same time they harrased me for months for 'unpaid' $0.9. Arguing with Indian (or whatever) so called 'support' has as much sense as pissing against the wind, so I gave up. Yes it's not an Ozbargain spirit, but at least I can share my story here and warn other people. There were few other things so long story short - I won't deal with them.
Same sh#t/story from TPG, won't go back to them. Kogan and Lebara are better valued when on sale.
is that the old Pennytel? or the re-incarnated Pennytel?
On a side note.
according to the CIS, the plan is monthly (not 28 days) & there's no setup/termination fee.

From memory it was a "new" one.
How does this compare to the discounted LycaMobile. I am trying to find a good Telstra Reseller with at least 5GB of data. I currently use between 2 and 3 GB per month. The LycaMobile plans look cheaper. But I can't find details of how long is the discounted price is for, is it only the first month ?.
It is $15 only for the first 6 months and then $30 thereafter…
Making this deal $22.50/month over 12months.
Soo you're better off with jeenee mobile large plan 12month contract @ $23.75/momth. I'd pay an extra $1.25 for 10gb data and $50 international calls.
jeenee uses Optus though, not Telstra
This is not a contract. So you can switch at any point.
Thanks OP, I bit the bullet. I'm sick of Vodafone not working inside my work building.
I am interested in the deal. However I am not sure about the quality of service.
Could you share with us your experience with PennyTel?
$10 for 6 refills on Optus Wholesale the other day, reckon those pennies would work the hardest. Make sense for car sims anyway.
Link?
6x 28-Day amaysim middyear but similar front page recurrent https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/6x%2028-Day%20amays…
Thanks OP.
I'll use them untill one of the main telcos have a sale
**Even the 15gb for $25. is good value!!
Would not have guessed PT was still around
