Our family are setting up for a year travelling around Australia (me, wife + 8 yo twins, camper trailer), and I’m thinking about taking a small portable projector for the odd movie nights (saw a guys had one when camping recently and it was neat).
I am taking a laptop and a 2TB HDD of movies, but the laptop will be too small if the 4 of us want to watch a movie. I have a Bluetooth speaker with 3.5mm jack, so I can run sound through that.
Space is limited, so it needs to be small. Also needs to run of 12V/100W max (I do have an inverter, but don’t want to go 12V – 240V – 12V and I don’t want to drain the batteries with larger/brighter units). Does not need to have its own battery, but I realise that some do. I know that limits options/power/brightness, but this is a nice to have not a necessity and we’ll be off grid for a lot of the trip. From what I have read I’m looking for something that is 720p native resolution (ie actual projection resolution) as a minimum and will be 50 - 100 lumens.
Happy to spend $100, even up to $200 if that’s what required to get something decent.
So the question – does anyone have actual first-hand experience with projectors like this? If so, can you please provide your impressions and details (make model) and even price?
This one isn't within your budget, but is perfect for your situation in case you do want to spend extra.
