Cheap Places to Buy Books

Hi all,

We are planning to build the library at my place and looking for places where we can buy books at reasonable prices. We are keenly mainly on self help, self improvement books. OP shops are good place to but collection is quite hit & miss. There are few websites we found but wonder if there is any thing we've missed….

Sites found….

https://www.bookdepository.com
http://www3.addall.com/
https://booko.com.au/
https://www.betterworldbooks.com/

thanks

With Book Depository, use a VPN to find the best price. For example, the latest title I just bought was cheaper if I bought through a US IP compared to an Australian or British IP (but the new GST rule kicked in so my savings weren't as great as first thought)

    Www.thriftbooks.com (US selling website)
Www.abebooks.com (they are covered in Booko searches though)

It amalgamates a few book selling websites they don’t sell books themselves.

Doesn’t add in the overseas Gst though I think…

    Www.thriftbooks.com (US selling website)…

This looks good…i wonder if they ship to Australia….

    • They did it costs US$5 per book (no grouping) which still made it cheaper when I bought certain books second hand. Not sure about post gst everything era. They are also pretty good with refunding or partial refunds of book arrives not in the same condition as originally described.

Note it comes in some weird packaging sometime like freight bags as big as 25kg rice fabric bags.

      • Thanks. Delivery costs per book is more than most of the book prices. I've about 10 odd books to buy so in total makes it less attractive however for individual books it may be better option….

  • I've gotten many 2nd hand books close to mint condition at the lifeline book fair. They have a large variety and the book fairs run every 2-3 months.

EDIT: just saw your location as melbourne. disregard this post.

    • that looks great…..too bad not such thing in Melb…

Some really cheap deals, mostly Remainder books.

If you're anal about your books, these usually come with a mark such as texta across the gilding toe that they're remainders.

Have you tried The Book Grocer? There's a few of them around Melbourne (I think they also do remainders)

  • Are you OK with 2nd hand books? If so, my favourite places for book bargains is the local op shops. Not all suburb stores have a good collection so you might need to explore a bit.

The OP already said op shops weren't much help in the more specialised books he was after …

  • Thanks for sharing this great, usually read books from apknite free ebooks app. Need to check this out.
