AmEx Inconvenience Insurance

I’m writing this sitting at Singapore airports lounge and waiting for the news on my delayed flight to Taipei.

I’ve got our tickets through corporate traveller (agency) but paid my wife’s ticket with my Amex.

Does anyone know if I can claim travel inconvenience 500$ if my flight is more than 4 hours delay? Or I should’ve purchased the tickets from Amex website to get insured?

My flight from Melbourne to Singapore was Qantas and Singapore to tipei is Qantas operated by Jetstar. They didn’t even offer free lounge access !!!

    . Delayed flight departure, flight cancellation, or denied aircraft boarding
    If during a Trip, departure of Your Scheduled Flight is delayed for four (4) hours or more, cancelled, or You are denied boarding of the aircraft due to over-booking, and no alternative transportation is made available to You within four (4) hours of the scheduled departure time of such flight, We will reimburse You for additional hotel accommodation and restaurant meals or refreshments, charged to the American Express Explorer® Credit Card, up to a maximum of $500.

    Last time I claimed, the conditions were paid for the flight with your Amex card, Itinerary orginates and ends in Australia and amount over ?$250

    You're entitled to $500 worth of meals and accomodation. Use your amex card keep your receipt and they may or may not reimburse you (They did both times I claimed, but didn't overspend for fear of not getting it back)

    They will also require some letter from the airline explaining cause of delay and how long it was.

    This was about a year ago, it might have already changed since or your situation might be different. Double check with Amex to be sure.

    edit I do not know how it works if the tickets are for your wife, I think only the cardholder is insured? Again, double check with Amex to be sure.
