  • Is this suitable to use as nas drive? Or still better get wd red nas?

    • I have 2 of the 5TB in a NAS and they are ok so far. A little noisy but not as noisy as Ironwolfs.

    • OK for NAS, I have 6 and they are great. Noisy though.

    • I reckon go with WD red nas. Anything about 5400 RPM will tend to be noisier and vibrates a lot.

    • Hot. Noisy. Probably vibrating.
Yes, I think they are suitable.

These are performance drives, for use where read speed matters like games, image editing etc. Nas drives are handily labeled as 'for nas use' like the reds and ironwolfs.

I wouldn't touch these with a barge pole. Bought a 6TB in a previous deal with Amazon US and in both instances the drive kept loosing all data on the drive, two replacement later and a few goes with Amazon's shocking return process (that differs between operator) I got a full refund and bought drives that are only slightly more expensive local and no hassle in getting warranty sorted.

    • The warranty on these are from amazon AU in Australia.

i've changed my tune about toshibas. although totally diff drives from these, i bought 6 x 6tb enterprise toshibas from systemax just over 2 years ago and i've had 2 failures and 2 other with 52% & 66% health respectively. Since systemax does inhouse warranty on these i'm out of luck. But what a waste of money!

bought 6x 6TB Toshiba Desktop drives from Amazon.com about 15 months ago, 5 out of 6 now report 20% health or below on HD Sentinel, SMART also shows bad sectors on those 5 drives. I may have had a bad batch, but this has put me off Toshiba completely.

  • My brand new Toshiba drive that came with my Dell Alienware system failed after an hour. Lucky Dell came and replaced it the mext day without any hassle. Replacement drive was a Seagate.
