Shipping Big Items to NZ

Recently I listed some front fenders of a car for sale on Facebook and was contacted by an interested party in New Zealand.

Now finding a way to ship them has been quite a struggle. I often get large packages from overseas delivered by TNT or EMS but according to TNT they only operate with businesses and EMS uses AusPost and the fenders are too big to be classed as a parcel.
I've been looking for companies to request quotes from. I've contacted a local courier but yet to receive a reply while Toll has quoted me over $900 which seems ridiculous to me.

Is anyone able to point me in the right direction to ship these for a reasonable cost?

  • Perhaps somewhere like PackSend might handle it?

  • Agree with this, their slogan is that they send anything, anywhere…

Or take it to Qantas freight near the airport?

  • You could try thinking in the reverse order of what they would do if sending the item to you.
If the town in NZ is a smaller one, where is their closest port? You could then ask them to look into a freight company who goes by boat to Australia and get a quote from there. They may have a shipping contact here that could accept it.

Before I lived in Australia I sold the front bumper of my car to someone in Australia. It was one of the larger freight company's who were able to send it in the end, was about $300 NZ IIRC.
Just a thought, good luck to you.

  • For those interested, got a quote from TNT using Interparcel around $400, PackSend was around $590. Also asked the guy if he lived near Auckland airport before getting a quote from Qantas but never got a reply so I assume he is flaking on the sale.
