AliExpress - How do you know which vendor to use?

I am looking at buying a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 from Ali Express as they seem to have the best deals at the moment. I would like to know how you can be confident with the seller? I have never used Ali Express before but I guess you look at the feedback like Ebay?

This one is just AU$250.48 delivered:

But some of the negative feedback is pretty bad and I'm not sure any of them have 100% positive feedback? What do you look for when buying from Ali Express?

No of orders and feedback from buyers.

Personally, I'll only just hongkong goldway. I dunno their pricing, but they're usually within 5 dollars off the lowest price.

You can check the Xiaomi subreddit, those guys have a suggested list.

I used goldway based off a recommendation off whirlpool. No issues from me there, would use them again,

    • That's helpful and Xiaomi MC Store is on there so it must be ok. Thanks!

    • Same, only used HK Goldway. No issues from 2 phones ordered. Not needed to use warranty, so unsure of how that would go.

      • Well I have ordered it from Xiaomi MC Store so fingers crossed it is all good. Thanks for your help :)

  • Amount and level of feedback as pyramid says.

Also - I tend not to buy from sellers who I haven't dealt with before - so I'll usually only buy from sellers I've had a history of buying small items from in the past and base my decisions on personal experience with that seller. It's not fool-proof, and rules out a lot of sellers though.

    • I haven't bought from anyone before.

      • I'm pretty risk-averse, I generally don't buy high-value items from basically any Chinese seller that I haven't in the past dealt with. Probably miss out on a few bargains because of that though.

Does the new GST affect grey imports like Aliexpress?

    • +1

Yes it does, Aliexpress add 10% on at the checkout for australian addresses. Banggood said they're taking the hit on GST currently but may introduce extra 10% charges in the future.

eBay charge 10% for all imports from overseas.

Websites that don't want to comply are just stopping any sales from Australia..

For me I sort by the cheapest but then buy from 2nd or 3rd cheapest not the most cheapest (unless the difference is significant).
