4k TV under $800 suggestions to replace Aldi TV

Hi All,

Recently purchased the Aldi 58" Bauhn UHD TV.

It seems to be having reception issues that my old 40" Sony never had before i switched them over a few days ago.

Thinking I may need to take advantage of the 60 return guarantee from Aldi so open to some suggestions for Tvs under 800ish around 55"

thanks

    A 55" 4K tv for $800… your only option is a Soniq.

I bought the 50 inch 2018 TCL from gecko products on their ebay store for $750 delivered using one of the 10% off sales recently. it arrived yesterday and seems pretty good…. but its y first TV I've bought in over 10 years, so i guess anything would look good

Check Kogan's range, especially if you order ahead of time. Not the best TVs but pretty good bang for buck

    • Can you vouch for any of the current models?

      • I've had the Kogan KU8000 (50" 4K) for about 4 months. It's nothing fancy and doesn't have any smart capabilities, but the picture quality is great and the sound is pretty good. Obviously it doesn't compare to the premium brands but I'm very happy given it was ~$420.

  • I feel like mamny "bargain" TVs will have similar reception issues. Good quality digital tuners aren't something companies can put on their spec sheet to sell more TVs so they would all choose the cheapest possible. Maybe consider upgrading your antenna with a booster?

    • I have a 43" Viano FHD TV and a 55" Palsonic 4K TV both are non smart versions and over the time I've had both (over a year) never had any issues with reception at all and I live in a rural Qld area. While yes the older TV you had may have had a better tuner, it also may have been tuned in better?

Have you tried re-tuning your TV on a sunny day (no bad weather influences) maybe Instead of replacing the TV I'd look at your antenna and cabling

    • I just got a new Telstra TV (Roku 4 rebranded) that has an Ariel socket at the back - so I assume this will replace the TV's Digital tuner. Perhaps look into getting something like that so you can watch free to air on it - skip the dodgy Aldi TV digital tuner. You can add some steaming channels and have all you need on the one box. If the rest of the TV is good then spend some $$ on a good box instead - will save $$.

Hisense 55N7 usually comes around this price, I've been using one for more than a year and it's been really good

Hisense is easily the best quality brand in this price range, OP

    • I've got the 50N7 - really good TV for the price

    • I bought a Hisense 55N6 for not much over $700 in an eBay sale (end of line I suppose) several months ago. Still a fantastic TV (some would argue better than the 7th gen), and yes, Hisense is definitely best in the price range. It looks like both the 55N6 and 55N7 are discontinued though and replaced by the more pricey P range.

Expand your budget a little more and get a hisense 70-75".

    • Maybe if my house was much bigger haha

  • I have the hisense 65N7 and it is an amazing television. I did a lot of research before purchasing including comparing with other mates' televisions and by far this tv wins!

  • Hijacking this thread:

How is the TV besides the built in tuner?

people still watch free to air TV?

      Exclusively, with some DVRing.

    • Did see that one and mentioned above with Ryan saying the Soniq is much better

  • I just went from a 4 year old Aldi (broken) to a hisense 55p6 and couldn’t be happier though it did cost me $1000. I wouldn’t be disappointed in the older model though for < 800. I got a $200 refund on the Aldi though which helped me raise the budget slightly! Also if you continue to have tuner issues just get a fetch or another set top box and plug it in and use that instead.

  • Probably a bit too late but I can vouch for this Linden:

It specifically is NOT a smart TV, which is exactly what I wanted after having an extremely shitty Kogan POS that I need to wait 30 seconds just to get it going. Panel seems by far decent enough quality, I have had it for about a year and a half now and not had an issue. The parents in law have had two aldi tvs and I hate them with a passion, their current one the sound is all out, the previous one you had to be sitting front on just to see the picture.

I can't speak to the reception on the Linden though as we no longer use free tv in the house.

  • There is Phillips 55" UHD $699 at Good Guys Clearance, or Sony 50" FHD $895….availability depends on location
