65” 4k HDR TV recommendations

Hi Ozbarganeers,
I have finally saved up $2200 for a new tv.
I’m keen to have some nice quality with HDR10 and 4k

Does anyone have any recommendations?
Through work I can get a Sony KD65X7500F for $1,931.05 – which looks like a pretty good deal but I don’t really know what I am looking at.

Can anyone make any recommendations?

By the way great forum and great people.

Cheers

  • This TV is a fresh release so thats good because you're getting the latest technology for similar price of last years model. However TV's regularly go on sale nearing the end of its term and you might be able to get a better model for the same price. This one would be regarded as the base model since you are getting a 65 inch screen for a pretty decent price, not sure if they still stock last years models but if they do try to get the top of the line model.

While there are OLED tv's out right now and offer better colours, contrast etc they do have a fair share of problems in recent years such as burn in. Not sure if they're able to fix it yet. Might want to look into QLED from Samsung but don't know much about them.

But before you do anything, make sure you go in store and check out all the TVs and try to determine their differences before purchasing regardless of where.

  • Thanks Steven - appreciate your response and links - checking them out.

These two sites seem to have very comprehensive reviews on everything TV:

    https://www.rtings.com/tv
    http://4k.com/tv/

Note: the Sony model numbers are usually slightly different for other markets e.g. KD65X7500F would usually be KD65X750F overseas.

Spot on. I bought a new 65" inch TV a couple of months ago and found the rtings.com website very helpful for my research.

Sony TV's are generally well regarded and the picture quality was great too. However for me, warranty was a slightly bigger thing so ended up purchasing a Samsung.

While not 65", I recently bought a 60" LG TV from JB HI:FI for under $1300, $1286 from memory.

Covers your criteria of HDR10 and 4k, just not the size (although they do offer a 65" model)

I've been pretty impressed with what it offers, and how it has performed since I got it. A big thing for me was the > 60Hz refresh rate, which it sits at 100. If I ever got another TV, I'd probably aim for even higher.

  • Thanks for all of the info guys
I will check out and report back.
