Looking for a Cheap Unlocked 3G/4G Android Smartphone to Take Overseas, Mainly for Calls, SMS

I'm going overseas in a few weeks and, while I have an android smart phone, I will be turning data off and using roaming sparingly due to cost, etc.

Looking for a cheap unlocked smartphone that I can use for calls, sms etc while travelling. I plan on buying local sims to keep in touch with friends, and have a contact number for airlines etc.

Any suggestions welcome. Maybe one of those cheap $69 phones from Aust Post, though reviews are not good. However, I don't need it for photos, apps etc. Will use my Samsung for photos.

      No idea what your reasoning for this is.

      I have friends in the places I am visiting so need to keep in contact with them to arrange catch ups etc. Also need the airline to be able to contact me if flights are rescheduled etc. Not sure how you manage those sorts of things but for me, I need a phone. My friends do not want to incur international calling costs to reach me on my Aussie phone. And wifi is not always available everywhere I am so whatsapp won't always work. For various reasons I don't want to take the Oz sim out of my existing phone.

      Price is right, but all are locked phones.

        Nokia will cost $25 to unlock, but ZTE phones generally cost under $3-5 for an unlock code on ebay. There used to be a user called 'bagman' on ozbargain who would sell unlock codes for around $2-3.

    Bought my Mum an Alcatel Pixi First at Auspost for $59 3 weeks ago - it's pretty good for the price. Check if it's still available.
