Recommended Mobile Broadband deals

Hi Guys,

After conducting some research among comparison websites, I pulled the trigger on the Optus - Vivid Wireless $90/ month Unlimited 4G deal today.

I just wanted to get some feedback on what everyone recommends and if you guys have any suggestions for my situation:
- moved back home with my folks for the next few months before I head overseas
- I have kogan 23gb XL mobile plan but It's easily consumed when tethering to my PC, so decided to get mobile broadband
- suburb is 2171 NSW

I'm guessing NBN would be best for speed but not always easiest, is your parents wanting internet? Do they not have their own you could upgrade for a few months?

I have vivid and works well, usually about $150 up front, assuming you purchase the 1 month free vivid thing, plus use a referral link here for another month, thats potentially 2 months free up front (assuming unlimited thats $90*2=$180 you don't have to pay) pretty much paying for itself a bit up front.

Vivid can be set up same day as you bought it as well which is good if you need internet NOW, specifically as you're only here for a few months it may be better off. If your folks don't have net it may take up to a month for provisioning and all that and then its not worth it if you want to cancel a month or two after. In saying that I have no idea what vivid is like cancelling and how easy or hard it is.

Only issue is that Vivid is not very fast, you're capped at about 1.2MBPs I can stream from Stan and foxtel though with a few issues here and there (show drops) but its workable for me and usable for my every day use. It's also very dependent on coverage, I'd definitely hundred percent make sure you can get the appropriate speeds for your coverage at your place, otherwise its basically a dud, definitely check this.

    • Thanks for the detailed response mate.

My speeds on vivid are at the capped maximum, which is good that i can take advantage of the full limitation!

I already created an account but didn't use a referral link. I don't suppose it's too late to go back?

  • Speed on Vivid seems sufficient, but probably not worth the $90/ month. I'll monitor first couple months usage then gauge a comparable plan.

Suburb is badgerys creek/ kemps creek/ rossmore

No NBN From what i've seen
