NBN with Static IP Availability

For the past year I've used MyRepublic (MR) with the gamer add-on which has been rather painless other than variable speed to run my Plex server from. Now that I've finished uni and am moving back home to save for a house deposit, I'll be using my parents internet (which is the non-gamer $59.99 MR plan).

To get a static IP for them with MR requires recontracting up to the $79.99 gamer plan at half the speed they were on previously.

What other companies these days have included or optional static IP's at a more competitive price

? It's not listed very clearly on a lot of companies websites making it a very challenging comparison.

TIA

  • This may help, but after you do the search there is no mention of Static IP that I can see. Most seem to be bundled with phone so perhaps that if you have a phone with the provider it needs to have a static IP?

  • Telecube also has Static IP. Will cost you a little extra per month though $5.50

Have you thought about using dyndns service? Your server updates its address to the service and then the yourserver.someservice.com is forwarded to your ip.

In simpler to understand terms, even with non-static IP, having a dynamic dns lets you have an address to call home with. Anytime you want to connect to your home PC from anywhere, you just type in a easy to remember address and you're connected.

    • ^ dynamic dns is the way to go.

      • Thanks for the posts on this. I'll check it out :) Does it play nice with Plex?

  • Can't you cancel your parents NBN and transfer your current Myrepublic NBN to their house?

    • I could do this, but my parents still use a VOIP service so it's a bit too much fiddling around.

  • Exetel,

  • Im on Flip Tv and have a static Ip.

  • Aussie broadband charges $10 per month for a static ip
