Reid Granite 2.0 Allroad Commuter/Trail Bike $680 Delivered (RRP $850) @ Reid Cycles

41
FREE20

Looks like a good solid entry level commuter/all terrain/all year weather bike.
Lots of good reviews in various bike mags etc.

I've just bought one myself- don't forget cashrewards brings it down to $658 after cashback.

The discount code isn't specific to this bike- it's good for $20 off any purchase over $100.

All sizes of the granite 2.0 are available- either free delivery or click and collect instore.

If you're near a store with stock in your size- store pickup includes putting it together.
(Apparently for deliveries the bikes are sent 85% assembled)

  • Seems little pricey for an entry level bike.

It's entry level for 'proper' bikes (not in the kmart etc 'bike in a box' category).

It's an entry level alloy frame, disc brake, carbon fork bike.

  • I ordered an Urban X3 (and got delivered) from them last year and there was an issue with the bike at the start but other than that was fine. My problem was their customer service it was atrocious and acted as if I was trying to rip them off at every turn.

Aldi should be having their road bike sale soon, as it's usually around the same time as the Tour De France.

They are unbranded Polygon bikes, virtually the same as their entry level Polygon Strattos S2 $599.00

    • Eagerly waiting!

    • …mines still going strong 18 months/8000kms later. paid around $230 for it….which is what the claris sti shifters alone on the thing cost
of course ive upgraded a few things like bb & chainset, wheelset & tyres, saddle, chain, bartape, pedals…you know the usual stuff :P

When you wake up, I'd love to hear your suggestions on a better sub $700 bike for long commutes in winter on weekdays and offroad trails on weekends?

Not saying such a thing doesn't exist- just wondering if you're intetested in making a meaningful contribution?

        • +2

Doesn't accommodate wider tyres for a comfortable gravel ride and winter wet weather riding on calliper brakes is sketchy as!

        • Can't mount a rack on that either for a kids seat or panniers etc

        • +2

@damoo: it has guard / rack mounts, front & rear
          & 2x bottle cage mounts…plenty of mounts ;)

        • @franco cozzo:

          Righto.

The fact that this reid bike goes offroad doesn't really make it apples and apples with a $230 aldi roadbike that has practically every possible component non stock though.

This one reid bike does the job of 2 aldi bikes (1 road bike, 1 mtb) for the same or better price as 2 aldi bikes.

        • …i was just replying to your incorrect assertion in re: mounts on the aldi bike :P

Lol I was just yawning. Why so serious?

Anyway looks like you got sucked by $20 and the 'sales' (FYI reid has a sale about every second day). Reid bikes are ok but not great…

You will see what I mean after about 6 months..

Have fun on your long commutes in winter on weekdays and offroad trails on weekends :)

      Hard hitting and decisive.

    Great bike, fair price.

  • BE WARNED! Worst customer service ever from this company, stole my money and refused to give it back.

  • Poor rep on the bike forums for novices/beginners.
If you can do your own maintenance, then its a different story.

      bike forums

Guys who insist that an unfit middleaged man can't ride twelve minutes to the station without a 105 drivetrain and carbon frame express negative opinion about cheap bike.

      Color me shocked.

My interpretation of Zippy7's comment was that given the nature of the sales channel, maintenance and tuning may be a problem for those inexperienced with bicycles. Not to do with component grade.
